I have a simple question as follows- if foreigner buys a lottery ticket and say wins the jackpot will he /she be paid directly? I've heard all kinds of answers including yes, no, through a thai person only, maybe, who knows, are you crazy etc. What is the truth. Thanks in advance.

I have seen a Nigerian that went and got paid his 400k winnings. I think show the right ticket and you get paid.

They sell to anyone, so should pay anyone. No need for work permit.

Thank you but had he/she won 2 m. or 3 m. or more in the JACKPOT would the outcome change?

A good question, I've heard (don't know if it is true or that the rules have changed) that Farangs only get 15.000 THB max

That's also the reason why I always let my Wife cash the lottery tickets, but up til now she never ever had to go, because we never win thumbsup.gif

I never buy them and always regret it when the draw comes on the radio, the whole market, house or shop stops to have a good chin wag about the numbers, I feel so left out coffee1.gif

I also have heard that your nationality doesn't matter but have never seen confirmation and as I buy sets of numbers, I'd send the wife to collect if we got the big one. The one who signs the back of the ticket is officially the winner. Are there any Jackpot winners among us I wonder, who could confirm this?

Got to be a resident in the country.

Anyway what is this topic allowed.

Discussing gambling is against forum rules.

Playing some online lotteries are legal as long as the company is based.abroad.

Same with casinos and poker sites.

Much higher payout from it machines than lottery. My wife won $7,000 in Jan.

I find it hilarious that the locals are GENUINELY surprised when they don't win..!!

Surely only Hi-sos are allowed to win? It's all fixed in advance of the tickets being printed. Ask any Issaan buffalo.

This almost an answer to the question but not fully as it refers to a winning incident 8 years ago.

Is there ANY person out there in Thai Visa world who knows for sure if the national lottery has a rule about this or not?

thanks.

hey folks , I am very sorry and I know the question that I'm asking is little weird, however I really need to know how to check your winnings. I have few applications on ipad named Thai lottery, purchased a ticket or 2 at times. please help me understand how to check results and are all lotteries result announcing form same or there are various organisations running this. gonna try my luck if I get to know about the correct procedure to confirm your winning and pot wise prize and money that one has to put on stake. this is totally illegal in my country so need some serious advice. thanks in advance

The Government Lottery = a tax on the stupid.

Before I left the UK there was a National Lottery draw on TV on Saturday nights. Anybody over 55 years who had bought a ticket had a greater chance of dying before the winning numbers were drawn than winning.

One of life's great pathetic utterings is when a winner of a stupendous amount of the folding stuff avers that having so much dosh won't change their lives. I'd make bloody sure that it changed mine.

There would be a mile long queue of big blondes outside my house for starters.

Very very few people have a genuine long-term change for the better from a huge windfall, more often a recipe for disaster. Of course if it were me it'd be different 8-)
