Instead of donating paltry sums, I would be much happier if the EU, Thailand and Malaysia, independently and through the UN, took action to stop the persecution of these people by Myanmar and returned them whence they came.

They are only stateless because their country of origin refuses to accept them as citizens. Would it be acceptable for iraq or Turkey to decide their Kurds were no longer acceptable as citizens?

You are outlining completely different circumstances to the Rohingya. The Rohingya had their Burmese citizenship overturned in the early 1980s. To date they are stateless based upon their ethnicity and are subjected to many other forms of discrimination by the State.
