EU to provide 200,000 euro to assist Rohingya refugees in Thailand

Featured Replies

Instead of donating paltry sums, I would be much happier if the EU, Thailand and Malaysia, independently and through the UN, took action to stop the persecution of these people by Myanmar and returned them whence they came.

Where do you 'return" stateless people to?-wai2.gif

They are only stateless because their country of origin refuses to accept them as citizens. Would it be acceptable for iraq or Turkey to decide their Kurds were no longer acceptable as citizens?

According to the 'It's expensive to live in Isaan these days' thread, 100euro per person isn't going to go far.

A number of countries do not grant citizenship simply because you were born there. Some years back, if your father wasn't Thai, you were not considered Thai, even if you were born here and had never been lived elsewhere.

Japan also doesn't grant citizenship to children born to non-Japanese parents in Japan.

This problem becomes particularly difficult if a child is illegitimate and the father is unknown or refuses to acknowledge paternity.

You are outlining completely different circumstances to the Rohingya. The Rohingya had their Burmese citizenship overturned in the early 1980s. To date they are stateless based upon their ethnicity and are subjected to many other forms of discrimination by the State.

It is simply rather laughable that a country that has just lost 260 BIllion to the MP's and Ministers of PTP, calls itself poor and then accepts 9 million baht from Europe, cap in hand. Not sure which term is most appropriate, shameful, disgraceful, outrageous, unbelievable, obscene, sinful. Maybe on second thoughts, all the words count.

Unfortunately none of the words stirs any emotion to them.. Their skins are thicker than an elephant's..

Shame on EU angry.png

200K is an insult! It is like someone asking for 100 THB to save a life, and receivine just 1 THB while saying: "see what you can do with that.... Good Luck!" angry.png
