Drunk and speeding. The roads pose the biggest threat to your life/health here. You may be doing the right thing, it doesn't mean the person coming the other direction is doing the same. andreandre
Indian? Who?Driver or deceased rider? This accident apparently about 10AM so not the more common drunk riding home in the early hours scenario[ not saying he was or was not drunk] but an unusual incident in that the bike was so far overto the right from his correct position on left lane.Looking at that yellow area must be about 2 meters wide ..that's a good sized divider. Even a badly misjudged overtaking move would be unlikely to be in his position.... Time will tell, must have been some witness es who saw it all...but very sobering photos for sure.. Potosi
He was an American, 27 years old. Does anyone know the location? Looks like a dual carriageway on the map. Does it have a central reservation with a crash barrier or greenery in the middle, or only those yellow lines?

Agree about rental bike helmets....and the best helmet available would not have made much difference to the outcome in this one Severe internal injuries would be as much the cause of death as head injuries would....violent impact indeed looking at the pics.. andreandre
http://farangdeath.tumblr.com/ Well at least the deceased is identified now... The story is as confusing as usual these days.. In the start it says.. ;PHUKET: American Nicolas Javier Solis, 27, teacher, was killed instantly when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a six-wheeled truck at an intersection in Rawai this morning. The man’s green Honda Click, heading south from Chalong at speed, crossed Viset Road and crashed into the front of the Chang truck. The fatal collision occurred on a straight stretch south of the Chalong Circle, towards Rawai. So was it at an intersection or on a straight stretch of road? I dont know the area at all , but from the pics i dont see an intersection.. Being American, did he get confused at some point and cross to the wrong side of the road, thinking he was on the correct side , i wonder? {This is very common occurence with visitors in NZ and many rental cars have a warning label on the speedometer warning to keep left]
