Thailand ranked 27th among most competitive countries

BANGKOK, 19 June 2013 (NNT) – Thailand has just been ranked 27th among countries with the most competitiveness, moving up 3 notches from last year.

According to Government Spokesperson Teerat Ratanasevi, the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), a Swiss-based business school, has ranked Thailand at number 27 in World Competitiveness this year. Among the ASEAN nations, Thailand lags behind only 2 countries: Malaysia and Singapore.

The World Competitiveness Survey, conducted in 60 countries, shows that Thailand has improved in terms of economic expansion, GDP growth, currency stability, political conflicts, and tourism revenue. However, the survey also indicates the country’s weaknesses, including its long-term unemployment, lack of scientific research, and corruption.

Last year, the IMD ranked Thailand at the 30th position out of 59 countries surveyed, suggesting that Thailand need to improve in 3 aspects: government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure.

Maybe 27th ......but we are the hub of the universe

If national holidays were cut down, and there were consequences to poor work ethics; it'd really start to move ahead.

long term unemployment ?? I thought unemployment was below 1%??

According to government figures....

How can anybody say this? when there no transparency in government!!!!!

They were'nt very competetive bidding to hold the World Fair in 2020 were they?

Looked again and it's 38th, a drop of 8 places.

Great reporting

  • Popular Post

However presented this as a news item should be sacked immediately for accepting a heap of Pheu Thai crap (in this case government spokesman Terat Rat...I smell another dirty r..) without checking the report. Is it absolute incompetence from newspapers as well as politicians that the Thai public get fed this garbage?

Thailand according to the report is ranked 38th and after sliding for 6 years improves by one spot. Problems include political instability, excessive red tape, pervasive corruption and security concerns. In individual rankings large concerns are poor public health at 71st rank and basic education at 89th with poor techno development for 84th.

Where Thailand gains big points and interesting this is data from 2011 on the back of a Dems government is the macroeconomic environment continues to improve with in 2011 the budget deficit at less than 2 percent of GDP and debt to GDP dropped to less than 42 percent. Which shows what is known is that Thailand has the ability to produce sufficient income to vastly improve the overall well being of the country if corruption and lawlessness were reigned in.

Shockingly poor reporting.

But not as shocking as this report will show next year when the good work by the Abhisit government on the one saving grace for the country, the economy, is going to start going tits up when the 2012 data flows show up the mismanage of the Pheu Thai pigs at the trough.

Shutting down entire government offices for lunch is the epitome of this lazy attitude. How on earth are working people supposed to get anything done? How about this - half eat at 12 pm , half eat at 1pm? Then of of course the shutting down of the country for just about a month in April.

And it usually two trips to get one thing accomplished, i.e. updating something, drop it off, then make another trip next day to pick it up.

So that is now 38th out of 60. not a lot here to shout about, Where is Nisa ??? this is right up his street --as they say, smile.png

cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif Yeah, most competitive... in terms of white lying and corruption under the table business and backstabbing... Go for number 1 Thailand... 26 more ranks to go... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

and only 60 countries guys and girls there are more,,,,

The government is quoting the IMD report which has been just released, not the WEF figures and statements clipped above.

The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) is a business school located in Switzerland.

The World Economic Forum is also based in Switzerland.

Who to believe. I wonder if they both used the same criteria.

So they used the one that no one pays attention to? Clever spin
