My University has changed names. Do I need new a certificate and transcripts?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I will be moving to Thailand to teach English within the next few months. The university I attended was University of Central England, Birmingham (UCE for short). It has now changed its name to Birmingham City University. My certificate and transcripts obviously have UCE on them. Will I need to get a new certificate and transcripts with the universities new name on them to get a work permit, teachers licence etc? Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Karlos

No, you don't need new ones and probably will not get them anyway. Just a simple matter of a name change of the university, which they can easily check if they even ask about it.

No you are all good, do not need to change anything. My University has changed it's name too and new documents are not needed.

As far as I can tell, Thais don't check anyway. A friend could not get a new certificate and the old one was lost, so he did a photoshop off his Universities on-line images of their certificates and it was accepted without question.

Certainly seems the way at the Teachers council. I know of 2 guys who have recently been awarded 2 year waivers on the strength of a Life Experience Degree.

I'll say that again as I can't seem to edit the above.

And I will have to disagree with you. I personally know of several people (at least 3) who have been sprung for a dodgy degree.

But, I think we are getting off-topic here. The guy has a legitimate degree and, if asked, could likely obtain the documentation to show he is on the up and up.
