Dentistry student held for shooting at tourists

Remind me not to go to him to have my wisdom teeth pulled.

Just wondering like.

Do they have wisdom teeth here? or dumb teeth.

Another little spoilt brat whose mommy and daddy probably treated him like a little prince and gave into to everyone of his little tantrums so he thinks he can do anything he wants and get away with it.

Probably will get away with it depending how rich mommy and daddy are.

Just a typical male attitude here.

They need to be pulled into gear, but sadly nothing ever seems to change their!!!!! it just gets worse by the year --one day in the future the govvy will say gee we got 500k of tourists last year this year we got 20,000 what's happened ????? surely they must know if people keep getting / shot / murdered / harassed that the end result in some years time, will be that people will bypass the place , again we have this very short ''only think of today attitude''''''' and to hell with tomorrow '' very sad really !

They are shooting themselves in the foot !

The main real crime has been missed here. How did a mentally unstable person like this "student" get a gun. Who provided the gun? Why isn't the gun provider under investigation.D

The plot thickens. Did the gun come from a police source? If it was a police issue gun I expect there will be no action against the officer who supplied the gun.

How many people in Thailand have illegal weapons and why are they not investigated as soon as it becomes known?

There are lots of guns in circulation in Thailand old and new they actually share guns so if they think they need a gun they can borrow one from someone i have seen this myself .

Shocking.

Probably close to zero farangs have guns here in Thailand. Its a one sided shooting gallery. Being dead and right certainly wins no trophy. Best to duck and cover for the time being. In a perfect world, we would just demand that all Thai people just turn in their illegal weapons. Somehow, I think, this is just not going to happen right away. Perhaps this man will spend his next life as a large deer in Iowa...if karma has its way.

Will be surprised if this guy does more than a year in jail. Likely walking around free as we speak.

No, it's six years.

He must have pulled his own wisdom teeth already

Dentistry school should be 3 or 4 years ...

He is in year 6

hmmmmmmm

Well now he's had experience in "Drilling People", probably good for a "would-be" Dentist who'll now have his studies brought to a sudden stop.

This article neatly avoids to make it clear that this happened in Chiang Mai.

Headline:

Dentistry student held for shooting at tourists

Prapaporn Kreu-ngew

The Nation on Sunday

CHIANG MAI: -- Police arrested a sixth-year dentistry student for shooting at and injuring three tourists in a heated argument early yesterday.

Headline says 'Chiang Mai' in bold font.

Further: "........Ban Din Restaurant on Soi Nimmanhemin 13.........". A very well known soi, 99% of Chiang Mai folks, local and foreign residents, would instantly understand it's Chiang Mai.

I wouldn't. I haven't been to Chiang Mai.

What I'd like to know is where are all these guns coming from? They can't possibly all be legal, have you seen the price of a legal firearm in Thailand? Way beyond the sort of money an average working class Thai can afford! Are they old guns left over from a previous era? Guns aren't much good without ammo either, where is that coming from? It doesn't seem much of a problem for a Thai to obtain one. I've seen a few that have been shown me with some sort of pride. Beware of the Thai sitting in the corner with a little bag around his shoulder......

I would have thought older guns would be some sort of none common calibre, this was a 9mm so seems like a reasonably modern firearm.

The penalties for an illegal (unlicensed) firearm here are quite strict, and the law is quite specific about what you are allowed to do with them, what they are for, where you can carry one. Carrying a concealable firearm in public is an offence.

<deleted> is going on in this country, rifles are almost completely banned (a gun that can be used for hunting and target shooting) because they are paranoid of being shot from a distance but a pistol (which really only has one use) is OK.

TIT I guess

Am I the only person in Thailand who doesn't own a gun? In Dallas, many people legally carry concealed weapons and, even accounting for population differences, it seems that Thais use guns even more than Americans.

In the village where I live just about every household has a gun be it a hand gun, rifle or shotgun.

The neighbours freely admit to owning them even though most are unregistered.

As is common nowadays in Thailand, the one who will be fined will be the dentistry student. The farang waitress will also be investigated and thrown out of Thailand for doing one of the 17 xenophobic job protection schemes.

Collateral damage by creating another victim is the Thai way to save their face.

I wonder what nationality she is. Did anyone see if the press mentioned.

Burmese? Chinese? Russian? Lisu?

How exactly would a foreigner waitress be working in a Chiang Mai restaurant???

Last I heard, the government wasn't exactly handing out work permits to foreigners for waitress work.. whistling.gif

More and more often i say to myself, get out of this LOS. When i read the norwegian news, i cant see it is any better there, we have multiple cultural problems in a small country who let in far to many so called asylum seekers, in fact economical refugees looking for the scandinavian welfare system. There also its a lot about loosing face, the bullshit loosing face culture. But where to go and hide theese days, live out ones life in peace and tranqulity, feel safe for crazy gunman and other lose face idiots. Not be scared for our girls from rapists from cultures where they look at women like shit. I guess it must be the north pole.

The North Pole does seem a safe option to live, if you discount being mauled by polar bears!

Have I missed something? Farang waitress! soon she will be an alien from Jupiter. There must be a real labour shortage in the realm if they are giving out work permits to 'farang waitresses' It said foreign so I would sugges Burmese, Lao or the likes. And, looking at the pic of the perp "my dog would have rejected him" of course my dog has an IQ of double digits AND good taste"

Well i suppose if testosterone driven farangs didn't go around assaulting people in the first place, there would never had been any shooting.

Was that 1 or 3 foreigners that assaulted 1 thai man?

Its not like shootings are strictly limited to thailand, go to the US and its an everyday occurence.

True, and just as unfortunate is that all these guys are seeing in the press is how previous perps are doing this kind of thing and getting away with it - there's just no apparent deterrent. The big pity is that it's very likely to take an atrocity along the lines of Columbine in US or Dunblane in Scotland to force them to do anything about it - and obviously just as likely to be under duress from other countries...

Burmese are foreigners and you can find them working in restaurants everywhere CM - BKK, including my wife's sisters place. I have seen more than a few Khmer (Cambodian) nationals working in restaurants in Isaan and elsewhere.

But the real point of my post, was to point out that many hill tribe ethnic minorities such as Lisu, Hmong, Lahu, are not Thai nationals, although they were born here and their communities have lived in Thailand for some time. I have found these sorts of folks working in restaurants in Chiang Mai. Its easy sometimes. They dont understand Thai very well and have thick accents.

"Danot, who surrendered to police and let them search the house at 3am, claimed that he had gone to the restaurant alone and had an argument with the tourists so he walked out and shot several times at the restaurant while he drove past it before going home.

Police investigation found that the suspect was drunk and had flirted with a foreigner waitress there, which upset her boyfriend who assaulted him, leading to the suspect's drive-by shooting."

Welcome to the " drive by shooting hub", of course a World Class Standard One.-w00t.gif

More like the wild West every day, it seems.

.....it's got a long way to go before even coming close to the savage society that modern day America has become.

What are you on about? Really. (I'd better call my mom and warn her. cheesy.gif )

So you are justifying that it is normal to take out a gun and shoot ?

And when Thai people attack somebody else are never in group? Or it is usually the contrary?

It does not matter where this happen, it should be punished heavily!!!

Well, how unusual and unexpected, the headline is wrong. The student is not a dentistry student (probably a medicine student, it seems) and at least one of the victims is not a "tourist", but a local who just graduated from school here a year or two ago.

Get well soon, Morris/Maurice. (And the others too, I hasten to add.)

Obviously its the foreigners fault, rejection of unwanted ovature by Thai man, Foreigner male objects to Thai mans hitting on his foreigner type waitress, insults made, Thai man has no other choice. Go home and get his 9mm, come back and seek retribution for her rejection and subsequant scuffle with Foreigner.

BIB will send the foreigners to Immigration for return to their home countries and the Thai man will return to Dentestry school. Why not? Its his country.

More good news for TAT. Lets see, Russian beating in Phuket, Gunman assasalt in Chiang Mai, Bangkok has so many negatives these days they don't bother to report them anymore.
