Last chance for a breakfast at J J Bakery

Featured Replies

Long-time eatery in Chiang Mai, J J Bakery, is closing its doors for good on July 31. Some 25 or more years ago the bakery and restaurant could be found at Tha Pae Gate in the (then) Montri Hotel, and also in the Night Market area on Chang Klan Road in addition to their home location out beyond the railway station.

For the past couple of years only the home location exited, but that won't be the case after next weekend for the restaurant portion of the business. The bakery, however, will continue to turn out baked goods which can be bought on site, as well as at Rim Ping supermarkets and elsewhere.

Too bad. JJ's was an icon for Western tourists/residents in its time.

I went there once, but despite its reputation found the lunch very average and rather over priced.

Many years ago it was one of the few places you could get decent cake.

Its reputation was established 20 years ago when it was almost the only clean comfortable, air con restaurant with somewhat passable Western food in town. smile.png

The one by the iron bridge did the best club sandwich around but that was a couple of years ago.
