How do you know if the police have training, proper training Big C?

If you are new here go into Nathon opposite the post office on the beach front next to the big white tent and you will see the local police receiving training this is normally done in the afternoon. You could always go and ask when it's conducted then you can witness 1st hand.

I can definitely confirm that - for the physical training. Not so sure about any shooting training though, seems to be more a personal matter here, seeing e.g. that the cops have to provide their own pistols. blink.png

I'm almost sure (plse correct me if I'm wrong BigC) that the average cop here on Samui wouldn't have too much training about how to handle a crazy/drugged up perp who acts so extremly swift and brutal as this despicable specimen.

Wanted to write more about the (non-) training of Thai police, but I find it somehow inappropriate at this time - still too shocked by the video.

R.I.P.

May the perp be reborn 1mio times as a one-day fly.

They would have had training but sometimes the criminal wins. Maybe they we not fully switched on that day.

It happens every where round the world. I have had frends who served in the UK army in Northern Island. They said that if you switch off for 1 ninute you could find yourself with a bullet somewhere in you. Plus it does happen.

I know that the police that went to this inccodent were fully trained and had been to police school. Like someone said they were probably trying to calm him down before jumping on him specially if they were waiting for back up to come.

He may have walked up to the policeman slowly like he was going to give himslef up. the pushed the knives in his chest in the sam action pulled his gun and started blasting away.

i herd that he was already attacking other people before he arrived which i am guessing would have ment that they would have split innto 2 to protect the crowd.

Please rememeber that most of this is based on assuption i am just saying a possibly synario.

Then if the man was shooting randomly everywhere then the policeman would have had to run over to stop him which is probably when he caught 1.

Sometimes the criminal has the head start with the art of conffusion. when they come up and do something in expected then you are not ready to re-act in the right way unless you have done the same thing time and time agian in training. but dealing with a crazyman on drugs makes the actions very random

There are no 'pu yai baans' anymore on Samui, that title has been scrapped a few years ago when Samui received the 'city' status, when I remember correctly.

Yes i remember them protesting but the people still call themselves pui, gan nag extra. not sure if they were given there positions back but these people are still inovled in politics as these same people where running during the vote for mayor

samui is a lawless Island run by gangsters. It's time for the Royal Thai Police to come down and sort this place out!

Here we go again

The police in Samui are the royal Thai police

What assumption do you make that Samui is lawless and run by gangsters

I suppose the rest of thailand including bangkok had no gangsters and crime

As it stands one is dead the other has been flown to bangkok for treatment they hope he shall savive his knive wound

The lad was a jet ski worker

i also have that assumptions as member of The Royal Thai Police told me it was the case. His words were i have to live here i have a wife and family no way will i go to mafia problems. He said this after a call came him on his radio about a fight in Solo bar. I was sat drinking with him and 2 of his colleagues about 4 am. One of his best friends a policeman was shot dead in Solo few years earlier. They all said no way would they go to that fight and promptly ordered up 3 more JD cokes. Fact Thai police in Samui will not get involved in the serious crime on Samui that's according to a Royal Thai Police Officer. I was was in Solo when a Thai near me was shot in the head, his brains blew out, it was over an hour before police arrived, Chaweng is not exactly big, by the time the police got there the body was removed and all blood hosed and scrubbed away.

I have lived in Samui, Pattaya, Udon and Phuket and Samui is unique in its lack of policing.

Also what is important that these officers were brave as they could have waited for back up to arrive but they went in only 2 people to protect the public from a crazed knife maniac

By the location of this happening I too am assuming the culprit came from the jet ski family that lives near by. The thing to remember is if this is true they are an old Samui family and for most of these families their view of Samui is nothing like ours no matter how long we have been here. They have their own judicial system.

New Update from TNN24: This morning at 7h33 a man suspected of being under the influence of Yabba was going crazy at the PTT in Chaweng Lake Road. Two police officers responded on a motorbike. One officer attempted to talk to the man to diffuse the situation, when that did not work the officer fired shots into the air to attempt to sub-due the suspect.
(quote from Samui times)
Was that part of his training, I wonder?

The family have been following the police round the island and told the inmate not to eat the food from the police until he was taken to the court and to samui prison.

Head police from Suratthani are very angry as one was a very good friend of the cheif of police in Surat. The local people have power on the island but when they leave then well. they are not local people any more

Yep. One needs to come from a pretty influential family to get away with doing a cop in Thailand. The fact the guy is still alive proofs the family at least has some local power.

Reminds me of some punk youth motocy gang that killed a cop in Phatthalung a few years back. Shortly after, quite a few of them were beheaded by a thin metal cable that was strung over the road, just when this gang happened to drive there...

I think comments like these i.e. "the local police force may need some further training - am pretty sure the point of carrying side arms is to shoot baddies!", are pretty disengenuous, however, I could be wrong becuase the people making these comments may not know that, surprisingly, most American police officers are killed with their own weapons, despite having received extensive training.

Out of interest do you have a source for this information, as all the stats i have seen give a figure way below 10% of officers killed with own hand guns, which is by no means most.

Weapons

72 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty.

  • Of officers killed in 2011, most (63) were killed with firearms. Of these, 50 were killed with handguns. (A breakdown of the types of weapons used in these slayings is provided in Table 27.)
  • 5 officers had their weapons stolen.
  • 3 officers were killed with their own weapons.
  • 10 officers attempted to use their weapons; 17 officers fired their weapons.
  • 21 officers were slain with firearms when they were 0-5 feet from the offenders.

I think it depends on the person piloting the gun

Such A a car kills more people than Any gun but the fault is with the drivers

The thing is what does one do if the criminal is also armed

Maybe if they has all one standard gun with separate magazine then that night help

Also if your team mate is injured you can use his clip to gather more ammo

I have checked the reference for the statement I gave and found it to be from a baseless conversation piece from a politician who is against the general arming of police officers. I apologise for having included in this thread without more thought on my behalf, which if I had made the simplest of enquiries would have revealed it to be no more than an apocryphal quote. Thank you for putting me right, where I of course should have been if I had taken appropriate care. Apologies to anyone who may have been offended.

not offended everyone has their own opion. If we all had the same opinions we would be robots. don't really need to re-search every time you comment because there are allot of other people out there to do that for u lol.
