webfact
Phuket cops bust ya bah dealersPhuket GazettePHUKET: -- Phuket police busted two ya bah (methamphetamine) dealers at a police checkpoint on Chao Fa East Road last night. The two men, Apichart Karaket, 26, and Surasak Tunyaudon, 22, confessed to police that they were paid between 3,000 and 4,000 baht to transfer the drugs from a dealer’s house in Thalang to another dealer’s house, Wichit Police Superintendent Chawalit Phetsipear said.At the checkpoint, police noticed that the pair seemed nervous as they were approaching, so officers waved them over to search them.“We asked them to stop to be searched, but Mr Surasak jumped off the back of the motorbike. He threw a box away and then started to run,” Col Chawalit said.At the same time, Mr Apichart made an attempt to flee the scene by motorbike. However, neither perpetrator’s attempt to avoid arrest was successful.“Police were able to arrest them, and then we found the orange box Mr Surasak had thrown away. Inside we found 1,000 ya bah pills wrapped up in foil,” Col Chawalit said. Both men were charged for the possession of a Category 1 Drug with intent to sell.Source: http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket_news/2013/Phuket-cops-bust-ya-bah-dealers-21703.html -- Phuket Gazette 2013-07-

Cuban
Can the people higher up the food chain not think of a better way to move product without raising suspicion? If it were a diversion run would have been better to use a smaller amount and send from a fake location with two such disposable donkeys. But shows the effect of police check points - they cause the guilty to show their hand at once.
newermonkey
Any bust is good news, but I wonder why TV has so many stories based on "Phukey" should be called "Phuket Visa"

Same like anywhere in the world, police make a lot of noise and switch on sirens so the BAD people can run away end officers stay safe Why put a smaller amount, what is the manufacturing price of 1000 of these poppers? Valentine
Good to see they got the big fish once again! In all my years here I do not recall any big fish ever being caught but then again they have too much power & influence & could possibly pull down many others with them. I guess if they had a really secure witness protection prgramme it might happen but I would certainly not want to be in a Thai one.

Closer to production 30 to 50Baht. I think they sell for 300 in Bangkok and maybe the tourist centres or more. Probably 10 Baht each at the source in the North. Laos, Burma, Thailand. They took it out of the stores 20 years ago and look at the monster they created. In Bombay in the 80's the police closed down the opium dens so "gradad" the garbage from the heroin making process from Afghanistan could be sold instead. They only make to the 3rd step, brown, not white. They created a generation of heroin addicts, where as the number of opium addicts was declining as most were elderly anyway.
