A thread on a "Notary" reminded me of something else I do whilst in my home country...I get Barclays to photocopy, stamp and sign copies of my passport...normally 20 at a time...... and all for free...

These come in usefull especially if you are here for a long time and need to do a "change of address"..After living here nearly 20 years and having been through 2 marriages (so far!!) I have been based in several parts of Thailand each needing a new postal address.....

Hope this helps..

When invited into a strange woman's bedroom, always check there isn't a man, who is dressed as a woman, hiding under the bed.

Now you have my attention. This sounds like one of those classic interesting stories. Please tell us more.

How did this one end up? How did it even begin?

jiguenard, if you are French or have worked in France for 5 years or more, contact the CFE (Caisse des Francais de l'Etranger). I pay them around 200 euro per trimester and I have the equivalent of the French Social Security cover. I'm pretty sure that you will be able to get cover for your family as well.

Probably referring to the News Item maybe 10 days ago where Indian men were lured into a room for a cheap massage and placed his clothes on the floor.

There was a ladyboy lying under the bed and stealing the money from the victims wallet while had a good time massage.

When arriving, what must I do to be sure to live in without any harassment?

Good question and the answers are simple.

Do not get involved with the wrong crowd, and try not to form any long term relationships with much younger women from the underclasses of Thai society.

Lose that Western aggression, it doesn`t work in Thailand and keep a low profile.

Always stay within the boundaries of Thai law, don`t do drugs and stick by the regulations for foreigners if buying land and real estate, business ownerships and working.

Follow these golden rules and will be enjoy living in Thailand in peace and safety.

As far as personal safety is concerned, never get drunk and always mind your own business and you will be OK.

whatever money you take will never be enough because retirees massively underestimate the funds they will need to live on for the rest of their days ,especially for health insurance over the latter years of their life.

some take a lot of cash and blow it fairly quickly .

and dont boast about your business cos they will get jealous and cause trouble ...

Try not to let any police man, Immigraton official or any other kind of official do you any favours, a good freind of mine who has lived in Thailand for over 20 years gave me this tip some years ago, once you let any of them do you a favour to help you, they can then expect favours back which more often than not involve the extraction of MONEY......So be careful...Having freinds in high places can be very costly...BEWARE...

Try to never get involved in arguments with Thai's, more often than not they don't fight one to one, their in packs and they can seriously damage your health, avoid confrontation at all costs....

Don't kick a Thai up the ars* or slap them on their head even as a joke....facepalm.gif

If you, need any maintenance done in your house it will be a miracle if a Thai can fix it without buggering up something else leaving you with more damage than when they started.

latest article about homeless retirees living on the streets and scavenging in bins for food at night when they got cleaned out

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Homeless-foreigners-lack-assistance-30212916.html

A GROWING NUMBER of foreign tourists and retirees are becoming homeless in Thailand, and the country should change its mindset to help them - at least with initial assistance - especially with the Asean Economic Community fast approaching, the head of a non-government group working with homeless and displaced people has said.
There are believed to be up to 30 homeless foreigners in Chiang Mai, and there have been reported sightings in popular tourist areas like Phuket and Chon Buri, Natee Saravari, secretary-general of the Issarachon Foundation, said.

"They walk or sit in shopping malls during the daytime and scavenge through garbage for food at night," he said.
