DDPM on the lookout for more floods

BANGKOK, 2 August 2013 (NNT) - The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has said that the flood situation has eased in more than half of the provinces affected.

According to the agency, out of the seven provinces hit by floods during the past week, only three are still battling the deluge; the three are Kanchanaburi, Chiang Rai, and Tak.
Nonetheless, the department will continue to closely monitor the situation as tropical storm Jebi is moving to cover Laos and Thailand during August 2-5, bringing extremely wet conditions to the North and Northeast.

The southwestern monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is intensifying, bringing more rains to nine provinces in the South. Flash floods and landslides are expected in many low-lying areas.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has assigned the Interior Ministry and DDPM to provide assistance to flood victims. Shelters and financial aid will be offered to those affected across the country.
