KRABI: -- The police have granted bail to the bar musician who is accused of stabbing an American to death after he wouldn’t quit singing.

3 bar members in the southern resort town of Ao Nang, Krabi were arrested early Wednesday in connection to the death of a 51-year old Texas man, Bobby Ray Carter. The 3 men were charged with causing death by physical attack, an offense punishable of up to 15 years in prison.

Police Col. Boontawee Toraksa, stated the court grated bail Thursday to the man who allegedly stabbed carter, 27-year old Ratikorn Romin. His band members remain in custody, reports Kentucky.com.

What's the chances of this guy ever appearing in court, being convicted and serving time?

Only hope is for the victim's family to keep pressure on though the US Embassy and government. Otherwise will simply fade awa. Thais get away with murdering other Thais so what chance for justice when its a farang.

Not much the US Embassy can do. Many similar cases but the embassy can't do much.

Incredible...in any other country!!

Ummm... what other country? Many western countries grant bail to known killers.

So, as usual, it's not TIT....

So you don't think it incredible that the one bloke out of the three that killed the American is the one (and the only one) of the three that gets out on bail? You don't think it incredible that the Thai "justice" system is hugely impacted by / based on who you know and how much you can pay?

What does your last sentence mean?

you would think that in matters like this that the relevant foreigners country would push for justice

Given the state of the police force and the justice system here, I think foreigners have given up any hope of getting justice in such cases.

It would not surprise to see a rise in vigilante justice in this country......

Maybe - as he is President of a company in China - they should get the Chinese Ambassador to get his say. They - the Chinese - do seem to back their people more.

Very sad for the family back in the U.S.A. to hear this news where the perpetrator is out on bail so quick :(

I mean....what happened to just punching the guy out? Don't think most people would have a problem if a few toughs from the bar smacked him around a little and kicked him out of the bar......what is up with the random killing??????

It's not clear from the article that the other two were refused bail or simply have been unable to post bond. I don't know how Thai courts work, but in the West bail decisions will vary from one individual to another according to, among other things, how much of a flight risk they present (do they have criminal records? have they skipped bail previously? do they have strong roots in the community?, etc.). We don't have these details here. [Of course, the courts also look at the threat the person poses to others, likelihood of interfering with witnesses, etc.]

Last sentence? You mean 'TIT'? A common acronym in these parts for 'This is Thailand' ... cynically suggesting Thailand is somehow unique in regards to what's being discussed.
