BANGKOK: -- The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Persons Holding Political Positions yesterday postponed the reading of verdicts on charges against five people in relation to the 2004 Bangkok City Hall purchase of fire trucks and boats.

The verdicts will now be handed down on September 10 at 10am.

The court also issued an arrest warrant for former deputy interior minister Pracha Maleenont for failing to show up at the court yesterday without explanation. Officials said he had been notified to do so and his guarantor was ordered to be fined Bt2 million.

The lawsuit was filed in July 2011 by the National Anti-Corruption Commission against former interior minister Bhokin Bhalakula and his deputy Pracha Maleenont, former commerce minister Wattana Muangsuk, former director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Fire and Rescue Department Pol Maj-General Atilak Tanchukiat, and former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin.

Another delay and the alleged wrong doing is now around 10 years old.

The wheels of justice supposedly grind slowly but in LoS most of the time they don't even grind.

I am hoping for the acquittal of K. Apirak and his reentry into Thai politics.

Few more days and the statute of limitations kicks in, should be safe to do a thorough investigation then, when no punishments can possibly be meted out to the thieves.

If it drags on too much longer they could always call Rick Harrison and see if he's interested on buying a few hundred bubble wrapped vintage Steyr fire trucks, there must be some sort of collectors market in them(if they will not ever be used to fight fires that is).

Would love to see a photo of the said fire trucks,they should

be in a very sad state ,sitting on the docks for 10 years,so

maybe another chance for corruption reconditioning them

or maybe they will just be scrapped,there is so much waste

of Government projects and no one is held responsible,

Samak who singed the contract in the last hours of his term

as Governor of Bangkok, is dead and others are taking the

heat for sticking to the terms of said contract.

I'm sure he just became sick really fast or got stuck in traffic. And of course a fine can be appealed/dropped with a good reason.

The main point which is not reminded to readers in this article is that former BMA Gov Samak - and later PPP, PM in 2008 - signed the contact for this purchase on the last day of his BMA Governor office. It was rushed, it was suspicious. He was also originally charged but obviously this could not be pursued after he passed away.
