DEATH OF AKEYUTH
NHRC to submit result of probe into tycoon's murder

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A senior National Human Rights Commission official will today hand an investigation report on the murder of businessman Akeyuth Anchanbutr to the national police chief with the hope that the change in a suspect's confession would be taken into consideration.

Niran Pithakwatchara said whether the NHRC report is taken into account depended totally on the police, but if they do it, it would be fair to the victim. He said it would also help resolve public doubt on the police team's quick conclusion that Akeyuth's driver, Santipharb Phengduang, had single-handedly killed him.

Santipharb, now in police custody, initially confessed to killing the businessman but later changed his statement to say he had been paid Bt3 million to kill his boss but failed. The people who allegedly hired him then killed the billionaire using military techniques and gave Santipharb the job of dumping the body.

Jessada Anujaree, a senior official from the Law Society of Thailand, said the changed confession could not be held valid until it is delivered and accepted by the police.

Can't see the changed "confession" being accepted by the police since they've already denied he has changed it......or at least reported that the Santipharb has not been visited by the family lawyer at Klong Prem....

...Jessada Anujaree, a senior official from the Law Society of Thailand, said the changed confession could not be held valid until it is delivered and accepted by the police......

.....if a man cannot retract a statement..or a confession.....that he was forced into.....by the real guilty parties.....'people in uniform', no less...

...because the police refuse......and because it would reflect badly on the government.....(the victim having legal actions pending against the government)..

........isn't this then, in fact, a police state...controlled by the government......???

....this is terrible....scary......what human rights....what justice......where to turn.....???
