As a side note, i get to choose an assistant, I'm currently trying to find out if they have to be Thai but am under the impression that non-Thai is ok if they are prepared to work on Thai wages. Must have some engineering experience, project is to increase the capacity of a gas plant. If anyone is interested let me know. 70,000 baht per month.

Cheers

Congratulations

On the high paying job, wish i couldn earn that kind of money.

But why............. the som nam na..Am i missing something...

Yes, been told 70,000 baht per month for assistant. The role will be supervising the modifications whilst i deal with mass balance calculations, paperwork, permits and attend meetings etc etc. Dont know much about thai wages, is this high or low? Must be degree qualified in an engineering discipline.

Half day on a Sunday for assistant, otherwise in work for 12 hours min every day.

Other than that i dont know much about it, only accepted the job this morning. Nepotism is a wonderful thing!!

In response to some of the stick i got for attempting to be self sufficient on a budget in Chiang Mai. To any of those old cranks that are looking for work, come and see me, you can clean my boots if you like. laugh.png

70k for an assistant with an engineering degree? You'll have every engineer with less than 15 years experience line up for that position...

From a writer to projectmanager. Woooowwww thats a sudden careerchange. You must be the new expatgem in LOS.

Trolling ???

Not really, chemical engineer on similar projects for many years. Wanted out of it for the easy life but family member has just done me a favour and got me the start.

I'll do it for the two years and then that really is my lot.

Getting too old for it. coffee1.gif

Start date is first week in October for anyone interested, will post more details when i find them out. I start in a couple of weeks but going over there in a couple of days if i can get a flight. I'm not paying for the flight so it can cost a fortune as far as i'm concerned. No business class though, economy only!!

I'll try and check here again when i'm not so busy.

Keep smiling guys, enjoy yourselves.

Ta ta.

My Post #215 of the prior 'budget' topic:

My conclusion?: Go back to chemical engineering. You don't seem to know much about anything else.

Congrats on the job, interested to see your new breakdown. with that type of money your wont have many worries. i know your excited, but do yourself a favor and keep your finances closer to your chest when you get here. there are many people around here (as everywhere) that will happily relieve you of it. i would recommend that you live as if you were still on that 45k a month budget but then again............ its not my money.

Been following the OP's other thread about his Chiang Mai budget and I for one am calling total utter BS on this one! cheesy.gif.pagespeed.ce.HaOxm9--Zv.gif

So you a more interesting topic then?

Let's pretend it's all true and dandy, what have we got to lose.

You know what pasta, it could be utter BS or it could be true, we don't know and unless you get to Rayong and meet up or not with KScott then you'll never know, what I do know is that if I was young and was in Rayong earning 300k baht a month I'd be getting down to the Star hotel in Rayong and checking out some of the beautys that are on offer or I'd be taking a ride to sin city pattaya for my weekends and partying, I might even have a trip to Ban Phe and check out the tourists on the beaches for a freebie.

The OP would be well advised to note that there are a number of members here on TV who really and verifiably do work in the O&G sector in Thailand and indeed in Rayong.

OK, let's pretend it's true even though it obviously isn't ;-)

NancyL mentioned 'project management' to him a couple of days ago and now, as if by magic, he's been offered a project manager job whistling.gif

And having been going to Rayong for some years and having drank with people who do work in the O&G sector GH will gladly verify your statement, I've also met people who say they do but don't work in the sector but are day/weekend trippers with delusions of grandeur..Theres also plenty of them in Pattaya..Blaggards

If so you're a clever lad and have sold yourself short at Bht300K/month

Yeap...300k/m was and average going rate about 10 years + ago...

and of course the clever lad is going to give us a hint which site/company this is, doesnt have to name it...just some pertinent info which will identify the place for those who know the area/companies and projects on the go...thumbsup.gif

just one more thing, he starts in a couple of weeks,

wow they got his work permit through very very quick

mate,

Until he arrives in country he will not have a WP, they are all done in country, all he will get at present is a single entry (usually), non-imm B, while outside Thailand if the right people are pulling strings you can actually turn a WP around in less than week, so even with a couple of weeks notice, getting a WP sorted out very doable

when i worked in bkk,

i had all the paperwork sent to me in the uk,

had to go to the visa office in hull,

got my class b visa, like you say before i got to thailand, im just saying a little bit tight timescale for all the paperwork,

he could have the job, there is plenty happening as you will know,

but i agree with you, he has sold himself short, im on double that in the uk, not even managerial role,

but its not bothering me, good luck to him,

when i was working in bkk i was still away from my home so to speak, wasnt on the farm, yes was working in thailand, but what does that mean,

so i went back on the road, if im going to be away from home ill earn as much as i can,,lol
