So you'll buy $3650 AUD worth of electronic and ship it to Thailand? Why don't you tell your friends to bring it with them whenever they come to Thailand. You do realize even vat of $3650 is a lot of money right? And if they can put 30 percent duty on it (if there is a way), they will not hesitate to put it. If there is anything in your package can be dutied higher, they will put same customs duty to whole package (max. 30 percent and 7 percent vat on top).

7% VAT on declared customs value+Shipping charge.

There is no Duty on Computers.

Why buy it in Australia...l.it would be cheaper from the US.

Dell wont Ship to Thailand from the US or Aussie

No...but you can use a shipment service. I gave that to a guide of price.

If you get charged duty on a computer import you are being scammed. Simple as that. Protest and appeal - it will be made right if you use a company like DHL/FEDEX/UPS. Disputing with other non courier's may be difficult.

I have probably imported 10-12 laptops now and NOT ONCE have I been charged or attempted to be charged duty. Simply VAT on value+Shipping.

Using: TNT, Fedex or DHL 100%.

Secondly I would not feel happy shipping a $4000.00 laptop not using one of the above 3 or UPS.

If you have doubts call Fedex put through to clearance department and get them to confirm duty rates on your import. You can also speak to TH Customs direct or check their Tariff database.

Dell Singapore $4,999 for the 18". nice trip to singapore.

A daily trip to singapore would cost much less than the VAT somebody will pay for this expensive product. Plus, you can get 7% VAT refund from Singapore, everybody wins :)
