Damascus preparing for Western military strike: people flee country, military commands relocated

DAMASCUS: -- While it seems that the only issue left to be settled by Western leaders is the timing of the military strike on Syria, people in Damascus are preparing. Syrians prefer to stay inside their homes or flee for neighboring Lebanon. The military are being evacuated.

Singapore urged to scrap caning after graffiti sentencing

Phuket News: Boy, 11, caught stealing from reggae shop in Patong

PHUKET: -- Police took an 11-year-old boy into custody yesterday (August 28) after he was caught red-handed stealing from a shop in Patong.

Pramuk Muenpho, owner of the Reggae Shop, called Kathu police at 2 am, after setting a trap for thieves who had already stolen items from the shop three times before.

He explained that he and some friends left the shop, opposite Loma Park, wide open and then hid in the back.

When the boy arrived and took a waist pouch from the shop, they grabbed him and held him until police arrived.

The boy admitted the theft. He told police that he had come to Patong with two friends on a motorbike. When he was caught, they rode away.

The boy was taken to Kathu Police Station so that his parents could be contacted while Mr Pramuk made a written statement about the theft.

Democrats agree to meet with national reform coordinator Banharn

BANGKOK: -- The opposition Democrat Party has agreed to hold talks with the premier's representative on political reform, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Thursday.

"I'm ready to talk with Banharn [silpa-archa] if he contacts me. I will tell him the root cause of the problems which, in fact, have come from the government itself. And the government has to end the conflicts," Abhisit said.

Former PM and chief advisor of Chart Thai Pattana Party Banharn Silpa-archa was assigned by Yingluck Shinnawatra on Sunday to be responsible for the national reform council. He will now serve as the coordinator of the national reform initiative, responsible for pushing for the creation of a roadmap for politics, economy and society.
