Nissan 2 litre turbo engine high fuel consumption help

Featured Replies

The first thing to check when running rich is the coolant temperature sensor and its connection to the ECU. Why has no one said this yet? An exhaust that is too large would impact consumption only a little on a EFI engine, but not cause 25L/100km.

Getting it properly tuned could make a big difference, too.

The O2 sensor has less impact on consumption that the CLT sensor. Does the SR20DET have a MAF or is it MAP? If the MAF has gone bad, if will cause higher consumption.

For the CLT sensor, find out what the resistance is supposed to be when the water is 90 degrees. These things are usually NTC due to safety.

Checking your O2, MAF (or MAP) and timing cannot hurt.

OP, have you googled anything on your engine?

Hi All, sorry for not replying earlier, I have been advised that this car is set up for racing, hence the high fuel consuption, how do I find out how to rectify this as the car is to be used as an every day car,is there a shop in or around Pattaya who can do this or will I need to travel farther afield, any info or help would be gratefully received.

Regards Tom

Sounds to me, you have a fuel/tuning problem.

if you are getting really bad millage and have black smoke you are running very very rich....

can you confirm that this sr20 engine is all std? does it have any piggyback?

you require a retune of the engine management and also check the fuel regulator.

also check your fuel filter etc.

if everything checks out ok and there is no "boost leaks" then i suggest to hire a tuner, dyno and get it remapped. (the tuner will install a oxygen sensor so he can monitor how rich/lean you are running) overall i think this is the best shot and getting things working to its proper condition.

one word of advise, make sure you are using 95 petrol....if you decide to use gashol 95 you can expect some problems...nevertheless what ever fuel you will use ensure to use that fuel when getting your car tuned otherwise you will face problems.

lastly, i recommend you add a muffler or two...., removing the cat will always give a distinct smell of fuel.

either go for a high flow 200cell cat, or add mufflers.
