US licensed attorney in Chaing Mai?

Featured Replies

I have documents I need to consult with a US licensed attorney. Does anyone know where I find him/her? Thanks

I recommend contacting one from your home state because many issues are dependent on state law. And they have to be licensed in that state. Who you contact really depends on your issue. Attorneys are so specialized these days. Find someone that specializes in your issue. You can easily scan the docs and send by email for them to review. Call first to make sure they can help. I'm sure you are already using a magic jack or a good calling card so voice comms shouldn't be a problem but it will take some time to find the right law office to handle your affairs. If it doesn't sound like they want to help you or it will be a hassel for them just move on. No shortage of law offices in the US.

That is correct, lawyers are members of State Bars in their perspective State(s). If it is a real estate matter, use a title company. Most States have their entire legal code online.

There is licensed US attorney here in CM - but he is not practicing. There was a guy working a major law firm here in CM a few years ago who said he was licensed in Colorado, but I guy I know checked it out in Colorado and he wasn't licensed. There are licensed US attorneys in Bangkok. 2 that I know of at the same Bangkok thai law firm. One is licensed in New York, not sure where the other is licensed. I've used the one licensed in New York before. PM me if you want his contact info. I agree, however, that laws vary widely from state to state, and you may want to consider consulting a licensed attorney in the US in your state.

There is also an (in)famous 'American licensed attorney' from Pattaya who I'm sure will be more than happy to work in Chiang Mai and who will be more than happy to bill you at American licensed attorney rates - you might regret it though. wai2.gif
