leftcross Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 me and the wife tried to set a joint bank account with bangkok bank (my usual bank) but they said they dont issue ATM cards with this type of account???? we would have got a bank book, but no card. does anyone know if other banks supply ATM cards with joint bank accounts?
lopburi3 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Bangkok Bank does (or did). Perhaps they have changed or there was a misunderstanding. The wife and I have had a joint account for about a dozen years with ATM cards. But there are two types of joint account so perhaps that was why they said no. In one type both parties have to sign to withdraw money so that would probably not allow an ATM card. The other type allows either party to withdraw.
markuk Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 i have joint accoun t with K bank with two ATM cards no question
waime Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I just opened my third joint account at Bangkok last week and received 2 ATM,s without a problem. Try another branch of Bangkok bank.
johna Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I also have a joint checking account with 2 ATM cards from BKK Bank head office Silom Road, but have had problems several times with branch offices.
johnh101 Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 We have a Bkk bank A/c I have a Visa / ATM and the missus has an ATM.
barryofthailand Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Every branch have their own rules. It's up to the branch manager. SCB opens joint accounts with atm cards. If you want two you have to pay for two. Barry
naka Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) Not sure why anyone in full control of their mental faculties would want a joint account. What purpose does this serve ?, ... Easy to make a transfer if and when when required ... divorce in this day and age is the norm, NOT the exception, particularly here !. Naka. Edited April 19, 2006 by naka
giffarine Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Do give it a second thought. However a join account is always better that any parties can withdraws, bank books or ATMs should any things badly happens to either party due to sickness or deaths, too bad if both parties gone at the same time, any amount in the bank will be frozen. To avoid this, secure additional ATM card with a third party, the risk is trusts.
leftcross Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 thanks for the advice fellas. i'll give the bangkok bank branch in silom a whirl.
