Education Visa

Featured Replies

I'm active duty military and my contract is about to expire in March. I plan on taking classes full time at a University in August. I know they give you a 90 day visa first and they can grant you an extention but I wont be going to school for about 160 days if I leave in March. Would I be ok to leave in March? If not whats the Earliest I can try to enter the country?

Thanks for your help everyone!

Might be best to obtain a double entry tourist visa first. A double entry tourist visa would give you 2 entries of 60 days and each entry can be exteded by 30 days for 1,900 baht per extension. That means you can get 180 days out of it.

60 day stay, extend 30 days for 1,900 baht and after 90 days leave the country. Return for another stay of 60 days and extension of 30 days (if needed).

Near August get the paperwork from the university and go abroad to a neighbouring country to apply for a non-ED-visa.

You can enter as a tourist any time. No need to wait. When school paperwork available you can change to the education stay.

With the double entry visa I heard its hard to get renewed in a near by asia country. I'm really trying to avoid flying back to the United States.

With the normal tourist visa how many extentions can you get?

Would it be possible to just take a 6 month thai class until my university starts? I think this would be my best bet if it would work

You can get a double entry tourist visa in Laos without any problem and then travel to Thailand. A single turist visa can only be extended by 30 days 1 time. (It is one time per tourist visa enty)

If you cna get a toruist visa in teh country you are now stationed it will be fine, simple apply for a new toruist visa in a neighbouring country like Laos when the time is there.

Yes, it is also possible to go to a language school for 6 months. Again best to first get a tourist visa, than get the paperwork from the shcool when you find a decent one where you want to study and get the Ed-visa in a neighbouring country.

A two entry tourist visa would give you about 6 months by getting a 30 day extension of first entry and make a border run to use 2nd entry before visa expires (90 days from issue date in Laos) then another 30 day extension.

You can go to school with tourist visa until you start at the university. You would find it to be lower in cost than finding one that can qualify you for a ED visa.
