Ubon Hash Run 60 takes place this Saturday, 7th September starting (4:30pm) and finishing at N-Joy bar/restaurant on Palochai Road, Meuang Ubon. It's a return to our former base - a nice atmospheric little bar with good falang and Thai food on the fringes of the town. I will be haring the trail so you can expect a beer stop of some description. Maybe some free nibbles back at the bar.

Go direct to N-Joy for a 4.30pm start. N-Joy is at the far western end of Palochai Road beyond the City Tohsang Hotel and beyond Ubon prison.

Hashing is social 'running' and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white flour/chalk and the pack must find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part! Although hashing has been described as a 'beer drinking club with a running problem' you will find that we are not drunken lunatics and quite sociable really!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first outing and inexpensive (200B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais - and that includes several free beers afterwards, and often a beer stop during the run.

^^ BUMP ^^

Beer duty up. Last chance to drink beer stock at old prices - yeah it's 'free' on the hash, but the Run Fee may have to go up in October to keep the Hash solvent. [Maybe, maybe not - wait for next year] w00t.gif

On On to N-Joy

I'll be pitching up in Ubon for a few weeks Jan/Feb to visit the outlaws. I don't do much in the way of running - mostly chasing (money, that is), but I'm pretty good at drinking beer, as I train regularly. I'll keep an eye on this forum to see if you have another sortie while I'm there, and if so I may well join you. drunk.gif.pagespeed.ce.hfErN2aQEE.gif

Nearly always first Saturday of the month. Next run should be Saturday October 5th. However, I will be sending a note to our experienced hashers to see if anyone can take on the run/admin for that day as I may not get back from the UK in time (selling up and becoming a tax exile!). If no takers I will change the run date to Saturday October 12th.

Watch this space (actually watch for another thread announcing the run - I will try to give a bit more warning than usual).

You have been missed on the hash DR - get the right date soon!

N-Joy hosted us well for the September run (route attached here:Ubon Hash Run 60 N-Joy 07sep13.doc). 13 runners, not bad considering so many experienced hashers were away. The RA in his absence in Norway had at least dome his preparations for the hash and ordered up the rain to lash down only once we got back to the comfort of the bar.

Front 'running' was delegated to three young teenagers including 2 'virgin hashers', though their early departure from the circle meant that Jay had to take the rap as nominee FRB. Rattana from N-Joy also 'ran' her first hash, well-done, and was promptly named "swings both ways".

Look out Ting, we'll be switching base from the Wrong Way unless you come back out on the hash a bit!
