Great Hotels.....under 500 THB per night.....

I found one the other day, that I can truly recommend. The 7 Days Hotel, near Arcade Bus Station. Good English TV, big bed, newish, easy to find, polite staff, secure, good attractions nearby, clean, very good wi-fi. They are doing a promo for 440 THB per night. Cheaper than what they are getting on Agoda. There are a lot of crappy hotels for 300-350, it seems likeif you move up a little in price, you can get something nice. Are there any other recs for good hotels under 500 per night in CHiang Mai?

I wouldn`t recommend any of these cheap hotels and guesthouses in Chiang Mai.

Most flaunt the safety regulations, can be fire traps and have sub standard sanitary conditions.

You stay at these places at your own discretion.

That's why I recommended this place, because it is a lot more like the Hampton Inn than the backpacker ghetto places. It seems like a lot of the budget ones, they have quit cleaning the toilets. It used to not be that way.

We'll then, how much do you have to pay for a room that meets your standards, and where? 7 Days Hotel is given 3 stars by Agoda. Typical TV response, lots of objections; no alternatives.

Not sure what the attractions near the bus station would be. It is a promo how long will it last and then what is the price going to be, How big are the rooms. 20 square meters? Standard.

A little less, I would say more like 17 sm. There is some good stuff by, but it is clearly not near the backpacker ghetto. Here is the dive I am staying in now. Cost me 15.03 USD per nigh inc.. I can't believe there aren't any mints by the bath tub, and there was a footprint on the slate tile floor, the flowers on the private walled patio are actually fake. Can you believe it? Life is tough being on a budget. I'm sure none of the TV posters are on a budget like mine, except for maybe the teachers, the people staying longer than two weeks, the people who have kids, the pensioners....hardly anyone.

You can get very decent Hotels for B500 in Chiang Mai ,off season .There is one large hotel near the Sunday night market ,which name excapes me which looks very decent outside at least and has a pool .

Here is a great alternative.

http://www.tapaeplacehotel.com/

Rooms out of season, 590 baht per night, includes, aircon, cable TV, bath, room service, wi-fi.

It`s a 3 star hotel right near the Tapae Gate, close to everything. Clean, safe and a hotel you would not be ashamed to invite your guests or recommend to anyone.

500 baht for a room? I never pay that much.

I'm skeptical about 500 baht A night. Even those that are 1000 baht A night aren't fantastic

Have to agree. Stayed there several times Blether. Good place for the price but the WiFi keeps goin down all the time and the breakfast is pretty lame but all in all, a good deal in a great location.

Golly, I almost never pay more than 500B for a room and I have never had any problems. And clearly the low price keeps the riff raff away.

Agoda reviewers give it a 7,2, while giving 7 Days a 7.9; for about 20% less. Does appear to be closer to the circus pants crowd, though.

Yes, better pay more and get to stay at something like the Downtown Inn. Paying more really buys you safety in this country.

The Coffee Boy, probably. ;)

So that does not look like the photos of the 7 days Inn ... a name would be helpful, and is that the walk in rate you paid?

Try the Green Palace, Ninman Haeman @ TB450. Works well for me.

5555555555....... when I come from Lampang to do my 90 day I usually stay the night visit old mates from when i lived in Chiang mai and have a few (too many) beers. I stay at my Brother and Sister in-law's run Guest House, 150 baht a night (family rate, reg price 200 baht) don't think I'll be running to anyone on this thread there.laugh.png.pagespeed.ce.SDkxrRteka.png

Well to some one looking for an under 500 baht a night I suspect the extra 90 baht a night would be excessive. That is a 20% increase. Would you like all your costs to go up 20%?

TripAdvisor says it is 239 of 325 in Chiang Mai. Dirty towels, bed bugs, poor service......

I wonder, do you own one of these crap doss houses?

Some of these cheap guesthouses have rooms above the ground floor that have no windows and no doors or windows in the above ground floor hallways leading to the rooms. The only means of escape is down a set of stairs and the only fire precautions these guesthouses use, are no smoking signs placed in the rooms and in the hallways, which they believe covers them legally.

As regards the tragedy of the Down Town inn, there are no guarantees of absolutely safety wherever we stay, in any country, unless you get a tip off from God, but I do like to edge my bets and aim for what I consider is the safest options whenever possible.

As I said; it`s up to your own discretion and if you believe that extra caution is not warranted if considering staying at a cheap guesthouse or doss house, than at an proper established hotel or motel, then good luck to all who sail in her.

I try to aim at the newest built hotels, as they are usually cleaner and have newer aircons, fridges and TVs and we all know how well everything is maintained here. A lot of times they have discounts to bring in guests.

I think all B2 hotels are ok, new and less then 500 Baht.
