Thank God! Finally, a crackdown on the hub of dastardly Australian Horse Racing Gamblers. Unbelievable that people would actually engage in this perverse activity. Congraulations to the constabulary for superior detective work; although the pictures of horses on the wall are a dead giveaway.

Breaking News!: They hyper-violent, aggressive, hard core Aussie gang known as "The Horses" was brought down by a highly skilled force of crack Royal Thai Police special agents who specialize in breaking through entrenched mafias. This crack team will surely deserve a royal medal for all their hard work and dedication to cleaning up the trash of Thailand. Two special agents were injured in the raid. One Lt Somchai tripped over a sleeping 12 year old homeless, underage, trafficked prostitute while raiding the villainous gang of horse gamblers. The other injury was to the team Commander Wichai Songruen who fell off his motorbike when he accidently hit a large pile of methamphetamine pills being stashed there by the local drug dealers. Thankfully the commander commented shortly after that although is "shooting hand" is broken, the hand he plays cards and drinks whiskey was uninjured. The Chonburi Governor was happy and was relieved that Pattaya had such a quality police to crack such a difficult case. He is happy to report that the residents of Pattaya can sleep better tonight knowing these criminals are behind bars.

Breaking News Update: It's with heavy heart we regret to inform the local community, Pol. Lt. Col Wichai was killed as he left the ortho doctors office. It was confirmed that an Aussie, angry at the local gang bust, jumped from the 59th floor of the neighboring hotel and landed on Lt. Col Wichai. A search of his condo revealed a metric ton of illicit pornographic material, marijuana, cocaine, yabaa pills, ya ice, heroin, and 4 kilos of pure, uncut Viagra. His girlfriend, a known ladyboy coconut ghost and the gang of ladyboys that left his condo shortly after his murder of Lt. Col. Wichai were cleared of any wrong doing. A note left at the scene was written in broken English and hand writing of a 5 year old blind child, was assumed to be that of Kuhn Brian Manus. According to Immigration, Kuhn Manus was stopped at Customs for having no less than 10 illegal sex toys on his arrival Sept 5th, 2013. The body of Kuhn Manus was brought to the local hospital where an autopsy will be performed.

Naughty boys...I'm sure you all knew, and certainly the owners did, that gambling, except the lottery, is illegal in Thailand. Surely on such a lubrigious soi, you could find some other activity to waste your time and money on.

A good pinch for the BIB.

Actually betting on the nags is legal in Thailand but you have to go to the racetrack to do it. I think it is a 50 baht limit.

Sounds like a Tom Waterhouse bet...although if you win more than twice in a row he'd more than likely limit you to 20 baht!!!

I can see the headlines for the morning of 6th November now.

"3,526 Australian and New Zealanders arrested in multi bar gambling syndicates throughout Pattaya"

So much for the annual Melbourne Cup sweepstake. coffee1.gif

Not exactly true. Betting on Muay Thai boxing is legal. Betting on the horse races at the track in Bangkok is legal.

Wether it is legal or not to bet on the Muay Thai wouldn't matter anyway...stood on umpteen occasions right in the middle of the SP bookies at Ch 7 stadium at Mo Chit and the whole SP setup is run by the BiB..one of the few places where they have looked after me and warned the local pickpockets to f..k off and not come near me!

Why didn't they use internet instead and collecting the bets into someones bank account overseas ?

Much safer , all you have to do is to sit in the bar watching the race on TV , they cant arrest you for that !

I, for one, feel much much safer now that these disreputable types can no longer terrorize this fine city.

The true mafia of Pattaya - a few blokes having a quiet beer and a wager on the horses.

This follows the farangs busted playing poker.

So live Horse racing on purpose built Horse Racing Tracks in Thailand,is perfectly legal, playing cards for money is not,and now betting on TV Horse Racing is illegal. No wonder gamblers don't take too much notice of the laws. And I have refrained from mentioning the other main prolific illegal pastime.

More seriously, what would be the consequences? Just paying a fine or would deportation be a serious option ?

gambling and prostitution are serious offences in Thailandsmile.pngwink.png Well for non thais they are. Haven't heard of Thai's being arrested for such things or maybe they don't make the news.

There is a horse racing track in Khon Kaen are you telling me NO Thai takes a gamble on the races.

What about all the card cames being played at this moment ??

No gambling cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif PLEASE no more BULL <deleted> or should I say Horse <deleted>

There is another Horse Racing Track in Udonthani, where you can have a brilliant afternoon out,and meet some very nice regular Farangs, including a English Trainer, who has been there many years. usual meetings are on a Saturday, but have other special day meetings. There is no entrance fee, just buy a program (in english) Beers are reasonable, and Barbecue food is available, some table seating if you get there early.

Good luck.

If Thais are being arrested for gambling (usually for the game Dice) they have to pay a fine of something like 500 Baht.

The guy who lives across the soi from me was present when the BiB waltzed in mob handed. He estimated about 40 or 50 cops attended. He says that nobody has been charged yet but the Aussies each had to put up 20K baht bail and they have been told to attend Court on Monday. He maintains his innocence and states that he was not betting on anything.

He lives quietly with his Thai wife and young son and is a good a neighbour as one could ever expect. He, as I am, is totally bemused by the whole affair. It's not as if the BiB haven't got better things to do.

Well lets see how this quick fix tourist court works then. Be interesting to see if it actually works any different to a regular court.

Why would any of these lawbreakers be told to report to the tourist court...especially the person in question as he is not even a tourist? My understanding is that the tourist court is where tourists can report crimes that have happened to them and is not for the processing of those caught by the police committing crimes.
