Report Part of Newly Opened Hoa Binh Bridge Sinks, Causing Accidents and Injuries
Photo: VN Express In a surprising turn of events, part of the Hoa Binh Bridge in southern Vietnam's Tay Ninh Province sank on Sunday, less than a month after its inauguration on April 25. The bridge, measuring 450 meters long and 12 meters wide, was a significant infrastructure project with an investment of over VND37 billion (approximately $1.4 million). The sinking incident, which has affected both the road surface and the structural integrity, caused a 35-meter-long fracture. At approximately 4 a.m., a vehicle driven by Nguyen Van Tinh, 43, carrying three passengers, fell into the newly formed chasm, flipping the car and causing injuries to all occupants. Simultaneously, two motorbikes carrying three individuals also fell into the chasm. All victims were promptly taken to Tay Ninh General Hospital for treatment. The road subsided by about three meters, leaving rubble and further fractures along the adjacent ground. Vehicles involved in the accident were removed from the site later on Sunday. Le Ngoc An, Chairman of the Chau Thanh District People's Committee, revealed that the bridge had been opened but not yet officially inspected. He noted that heavy rains in the region over the previous days might have contributed to the structural failure. In response to the incident, authorities have cordoned off both ends of the bridge and advised commuters to use alternative routes while the situation is assessed.
