Do Us Telephones Work In Thailand?

Featured Replies

Barring the electrical differences, if I were to take a standard touch tone phone to Thailand which didn't have an answering machine component would it work?

Yes. But they sell for about $5 here in Lotus Superstores.

Depends which country you are bringing it from!

If you are coming from the UK it will work but won't ring because UK equipment use the 3 wire system where 2 wires are the line and one is for the ring.

Two wires come into a UK house but the ring is generated in the master box. Most european and I think US systems use 2 wires and the ring curcuit is in the phone or fax etc.

If you are from the UK you can take a BT master box with you and connect it to you thai box then plug your Uk equipment into that then it will work! If you aren't then ignore all this, I thought it might be usefull to someone!

Simon.
