:D Ladies???

This is the 21st Century, I would have opted for the forum to be called:

Women In Thailand

Seems to me that the word 'ladies' is a hangover from a bygone era..I may be wrong but as a man I am more comfortable with describing females as 'women'...I think some of our more political sisters would cower at being described as 'ladies'...it is such an Anglo word, remember it being used to describe toilets in public places...however to each their own...interested in any comment from either men/women or others... :o dukkha

stirring here? :o

I don't really see anything wrong with Ladies, don't find it sexist in anyway. But then, I was not raised in an environment where other peoples poor attitudes mattered anyway.

My father grew up on a depression era farm with 3 sisters. He has no illusions about women's capabilities and raised his daughters to believe they could achieve whatever they wanted. It never dawned on me until I was about 20 that there were people out there ignorant and closed minded enough to think that there was something I could not do simply because I was a woman.

The only sexist language I find degrading is the kind that cannot be repeated in an open forum.

Ladies is not degrading in my book. Nor is gentlemen. Wish we had more people that behaved in a mannerly manner in this world, frankly.

what other alternatives are there?

women in thailand

girls in thailand

females in thailand

she's in thailand

hers in thailand

chicks in thailand

gals in thailand

saos in thailand

yings in thailand

of course this is just scratching the surface of what some men on this forum call us (for those that dont, please dont take any offence). :o

DON'T see any wrong with "ladies"

But I like "Khun Ying" though :D .....never been called that before :o

Khun Ying BKK

i don't really like to be called a "lady" (or god forbid someone should call me ma'am!), but it's not really so offensive, it is just me being in denial that i am 30 now.

BKK I thought you were a man ????????

i dont think i would like to be a khun ying. i dont have the right hair do for it..... :o

:o Donna I reckon you have an amazing 'high hair' do hidden under your bewdiful beaded head dress, and didnt I see you at the salon in Siam Paragon with Khunying Large Glasses and Lots of Jewellery and Thanpuying Silk Suit and Cerise Lipstick last week....or maybe it was M.R. Veryrich and M.L. Loadsadough....stay bewdiful... :D dukkha

so...i have finally been caught out. thanks for blowing my cover, dukkha. i was having a bad hair day when this pic was taken and i just had to put on a hat to hide my roots.

so...now EVERYONE knows.

thanks a lot.

This forum used to be called farang girls in thailand but attracted too many muppets who liked being rude. We decided a while ago to incorporate all ladies living in, from or with an attachment/interest in Thailand.

We used ladies as the words "women" & "Thailand" brought up too many dating agency/sex sites. Ladies in Thailand was the best option for the search engines & to be clear that this isn't a dating or sex site.

Being referred to as a lady has no negative connotations IMO, it's polite if a little old fashioned.

:o Boo, thanks so much for your intelligent explanation of the name of the thread and concur with all that you said...I feel somewhat of a twit now as I rashly reacted to what I considered sexist language and now you have clarified it to me...I feel quite redundant now, however it has given me a chance to banter with some wimmin which as a gay man, living here in thailand, does not come my way all that frequently...in fact one of the greatest losses for me coming to live here is the paucity of opportunities for me to form friendships with wimmin ....dont seem to have all that many contacts in this regard so thanks for allowing me waffle and participate with some of the galz....but hey have been called one of the galz myself on more than one occaison....you go galz...lerve and laffter...Dukkha :D

dukkha...are you flirting with me? :o

:o My 18 month old knows the word 'man' but when he uses it for a female and I have to correct him and say it is a 'lady' when it's someone my age it makes me feel old! Can't exactly teach him that she's a 'girl', though! Other than that, don't have a problem with the word. Terms like 'ladies night out' sound just as good as 'girls night out' but 'womens night out' would just sound weird.

:D Whaddya reckon????? It is just refreshing to meet a woman on TV who has a sense of humour, much more than any of the guys I have encountered on the gay thread...you light up my life!! You can see how starved I am for female companionship even at the level of an ex-pats computa site...shoulder blades back and tits to the wind I reckon Divine Donna... :o Dukkha

Dukkha, Any fellas are welcome in the ladies section as long as they remeber that there are ladies present :D feel free to join in the girlie chats. But where in thailand are you, there has to be some women around for you to make friends with? O rmaybe you will find them here? :o

I like to be called a lady... :o

Agree Glauka...It's much more sophisticated and chique to talk about the 'Lady-next door'....rather than the 'Woman-next-door' isn't it?

I know...since I'm a simple ......man :D

LaoPo

Or....we could call our selves sir.

"cheap price sir"

LOl

you know what i mean ladies . someone should teach them that sir is a male and ma'am is a female.

I hope I have not left posting a reply to late to this thread, however I am soon to be married and wanted to ask if by Thai law do I have to take my partners last name. Due to work and career I will probably not take his last name. But I am not opposed to it either. But I am curious to know. So if anyone has the answer, please let me know.
