BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court on Monday jailed three members of the redshirt political movement for six years and eight months for bombing the Bhum Jai Thai Party headquarters in Bangkok's Chatuchak district in June 2010.

Detpol Phuttachong, Kampol Kamkong and Kobchai Bunplod were sentenced to 10 years for producing explosive devices, possessing explosives, carrying them to a public place without permission and carrying out the bomb attack. The court reduced the terms to six years and eight months on grounds that they provided testimony useful to the trial.

The court said the three men conspired with Anek Singkuntod to push a fruit cart concealing a homemade bomb, which was made from a gas tank, to the back of the Bhum Jai Thai Party's building near Paholyothin Soi 43.

The bomb damaged the building, a food shop and a car and left Anek blinded. The Appeals Court earlier reduced the 35year jail term handed down to Anek by a lower court to five years on grounds that he confessed to the crime.

The court also sentenced Suriya Pumwong to three years and four months in jail for assembling an explosive device. Another defendant, Warisriya Bunsom, was acquitted but remained in detention pending an appeal by prosecutors.

Are these the same Red Shirt protestors that are always portrayed as being so peaceful and never doing anything wrong?

Same ,Same but different.did not have enough protection,so going to jail.

regards Worgeordie

" Not enough protection ", now there's a thought so will their red shirt pals take this lying down or protest plus putting pressure on the government which has two of their leaders in prominent positions ?

Of course the legal dance isn't over as there may well be an appeal and " sound " legal reasons can be found to overturn conviction.

I just do not believe that this sentence is real ! and I have observed many that were documented but not observed in reality. The redshirts are in power, whatever you may think, and their designated redshirt villages and provinces are nothing other than the private army of "you know who" waiting to emerge, clubs and machetes swinging.

Sentence reduced for giving evidence that was helpful! It's one thing to reduce a sentence for a guilty plea ( though 50% is a huge reduction ) but just for giving evidence that is useful? So what benefit to others not charged for any of fence on giving evidence that puts away these scumbags. Thai justice back to front like so many things in Thailand

Ha Ha ! This story reminded me of something I read about the Lord of the Rings :

Sauron regained control over most of the creatures that had served Morgoth in the First Age (such as orc and trolls) Sauron also gained power over most of the Men in the East and the South, becoming their god-king.

Substitute Sauron for Thaksin, the orcs and trolls for the redshirts, and god-king for PM and history has repeated itself. Truth can be stranger than fiction. thumbsup.gif
