Non-Imm B VISA extension

Featured Replies

Dear All,

I am Australian working in Thailand on a non immigrant B multi entry visa. My visa is about to expire in December and I need to know if I can extend it at all or if I have to go home and apply for a new one.

According to my HR department at work (who really have no clue) Because I am not employed as a permanent employee..ie: they don't pay me the minimum 50,000THB a month, we cannot re-new my visa here.

What I want to know is... If my Visa was issued on the 11th of Decemeber 2012 do I only get 12 months exactly? Can I extend 3 more months? I seem to remember somewhere here saying that you can get 15 months out of a non B multi entry???

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Sophie

Yes to both. There is an income requirement for extensions which you apparently do not meet. But you can get another 90 day stay with a new border entry before use before date on visa.

You can get a new visa in Penang with required documents and a work permit with about 7 months validity remaining.

Sorry,

Just to clarify.. I just stamped my passport the other day, but if I go do a border run before the visa runs out, i.e.: on the 9th of December, they will stamp it for a further 90 days? even if that takes it past the end date on the visa?

This is great news!

Correct.

Awesome!

Thank you so much!, although it sort of would have been nice to have a visit home ;) even if it was just for a visa run.

A visit home, while not required, is not prohibited either.

555! Try telling my Boss that!!!

OK so next problem!!!

My work permit is only valid until the 11th of Dec as well and apparently I cannot extend it past the end date of the visa.... Therefore if I stamp my visa one more time and get 90 days more, I will be working without a valid work permit...

Is there anyway to extend my work permit for 90days as well?

Thanks

Work permits are not tied to your permit to stay date for several years now (If they were you would of been getting 90 day work permits).

You can get another full year work permit.

But don't I need a valid visa to apply for the work permit??

My local immigration office says they cannot extend the work permit past the VISA end date.. and I know it depends on which office you go to as to what information you get. But if they are the ones that will be processing it, then maybe I should just go on what they say?

WP Renewals have not been locked with the entry/extension stamp date in your passport for a number of years now.

So long as your current entry/extension stamp is valid and based on the correct visa/extension basis then your WP will be renewed for another year or fixed contract/professional membership period.

Immigration has nothing to do with work permits.

They are done by the labor ministry.

If you are here and have a valid permited to stay date that is all that matters. The visa expiration date does not matter.

Their hundreds of people here on extensions of stay with visas that expired years ago.

Immigration do not renew Work Permits - that's Labour and they have different rules/criteriae.

Only exception to this is the One Stop Centre in BKK which deals with employees of Thai BOI comapnies.
