Book of PM's trips is prepared

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- PM's Secretary Suranand Vejjajia plans a compilation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's overseas trips, following criticisms on the huge spending involved.

He said that it would take a while for the government to compile the benefits of the trips. This should be available for the public soon after the government reveals its 2-year achievements, he said.

He also denied the accusation that each trip involves the expense of Bt40-Bt50 million, as the expense differs accordingly to the distance. He said it is unfair to criticise only on the cost, without considering the benefits.

He also insisted that the overseas trips accomplished two main objectives. First, a number of Thai businesses were given the opportunity in expanding their businesses. Second, the trips restored the country’s tarnished image, following the 2006 coup d’etat.

"After the coup, several countries shut off Thailand. But now, the relations are re-established," he said.

With the deputy finance minister scuppering the bid to remove the luxury goods tax, how else can she get her shopping done other than travelling to the source country. Was it Milan Italy last week?

This is saving money!

Don't hold you breath waiting for this book to ever be written; much less published. Delay, distract, obfuscate are their mantras.

The government has not presented their accomplishments for their first year at the helm. So publication after the 2 year anniversy (come and gone) gives lots of time for editing, rewrites, ghost writters, etc to get involved.

The story line may not justify more than copies to cover the coalition members only, or maybe its going to be a show and tell publication.

Seeing as such travel is NOT her job, I feel it is very fair to criticize her. Her job is taking care of the many problems here IN the country, and of which she seems utterly incapable.

As always with Suranand,, very very loose with the truth, and a master of spin: "After the coup, several countries shut off Thailand. But now, the relations are re-established," he said."

Perhaps he would like to list the countries that ".....shut off Thailand....."

He won't, because he can't, because none did.

I'm sure the list of countries that shut off Thailand and that have now been re-engaged by the PM/DM's hard work, endeavours and charm will be almost as long as the list of government achievements in the last 2 years.

Won't need A4. A3, - maybe back of a postage stamp would be too big too.
