Insurance and yearly tax on pick up

Featured Replies

Looking for some assistance please.

I am going back to my home country in late November this year for several months. So return date could be July 2014

My insurance on the pick up expires on November 10 and yearly tax is due on January 27 2014.

I have to make one trip away mid November for one week.

So my questions to some experienced board members are as follows.

1. Can I obtain insurance for say one to two months as I really do not want to pay 12 months insurance when I will be away for 6 months. Truck will be housed in my garage and will not be driven while I am away.

2. Can I pay my tax due January 27 2014 prior to going away in late November?

Any helpful replies are most appreciated.

you can pay tax up to 90 days before due date

I doubt you will get a insurance for less then 1 year for your car

do it all when you come back

do it all when you come back

that's the best way. if you do not hand in your number plates they will charge you from when the last tax sticker expired. no matter how long you are away

I believs car insurance can be suspended, check with your broker/agent

Be sure to park it someplace safe if you cancel the insurance.

Hi Guys,

I have confirmed with the licence office I can pay the tax 90 days prior to the due date.

With the insurance I will pay the full amount and by doing so I will at least have some peace of mind while I am away.

Thank you for all your input.

Yeah, peace of mind is worth a little, and the insurance is not that much in the scheme of things.

I used to turn everything but the comprehensive off on my US car, but I could turn it off and on with a phone call, and just get billed every six months.
