I have just gotten on of those TOT MeTv Android boxes, and would like to

add some apps from Google Playstore ,but cannot not figure out how to do

it,

So if someone can help me ,with simple instructions how i go about doing it,

i would be grateful

I have had an Android tablet before and it was easy to add stuff, but this

does not work the same.

t should be a doddle

Just sign up with the Play Store, select the apps you want

and then download and install.

Unless TOT has blocked something??????

I have signed up on my PC with the same e-mail as Play Store

and it sees my Android box and downloads automatically

Very much more easy where I have to pay for an app.

  • download "Google Play.zip" from Mega
  • extract it and copy the three files to your TOT box's Sdcard.
  • On your TOT box use "Root Explorer" or a similar root-filemanager and copy the three files to the: "/system/app" folder (or use just ADB for this)
  • (Or you can just try to install the three files, but not sure if it works than)
  • restart your TOT box and Google play should work.

It should be but the Play Store says something such as "Your telephone is not recognised".

There was a website that acted as a middle man and converted the files to .apk files but it doesn't seem to be working anymore.

I'm a bit leery about downloading .apk packages from untrusted websites so the solution is no nearer yet.

Sound like TOT has been messing.:bah:

I have downloaded apk file to my PC from apparently reputable sites and then installed

on the Android without any problems.

Yes I was careful, and had to by pass the security check on the box for "reputable" sites

PS I own two Android devices, the Minix and a Samsung phone

They both behave the same.

Why should a TOT box be any different??

TIT (This is Thailand) seems to be the answer

Why should a TOT box be any different??

Because Google Play and the necessary Framework is not pre-installed on the TOT box! dry.png.pagespeed.ce.iCXmiFQmCf.png

But if you would have recognised my former post, you would know, what to do.

TIT (This is Thailand) seems to be the answer

nonsense.

PS: the "Google Play.zip" file is not from a dubious source.

I have extracted the files from an original "Pivos Firmware"

I missed your post Turkleton, many apologies! This is exactly what I needed, a simple explanation of how to get Google Play working.

As you may have realised, myself and some others are complete n00bs when it comes to Android, I still use an old Nokia dumbphone and the TOT box is my first Android experience.

You're a star and thank you once again.

@ Turkleton : thank you very much because it' exactly what I am going to do this evening. It should be helpful..

Hi Rv Hawee

Please report back for us n00bs as I have to wait until tomorrow afternoon when there's no nieces and nephew here. They don't know we have Thai TV as the wife wants them to work on creative things.

A full breakdown of the steps would be helpful but I think Mr Turkleton has explained well enough for me but others may need more help.

Best of luck

Hi Turkleton, Much appreciate you help with this TOT box problem,

So far I have downloaded google Play.zip, extracted it to my SD card,

download Root Explorer extracted to SD card, all are seen on box,

How do I use Root Explorer to get the Google Play files to be loaded

on the system ? as I don't have a clue !,

To Astral, This is a Android box ,but not as we know it ,Jim. I am stupid

but I could load stuff on to a Android tablet I had, but this TOT box is

a very different kettle of fish.

Hope you can help me with the last stage Turkleton, thanks once again

I have never tried to "install" the files.

I have copied them manually to /system/app folder via "ADB" and set file permissions to "644".

You need all three files in "/system/app", otherwise it won't work.

"vending.apk" is the Play Store itself.

The other two apk's are needed, because you have to login into your Gooogle account, to use Google Play.

These two files are also missing on the TOT box.

Without these two apk's, you can't login into your account or create a new one!

If I have a little bit time tomorrow, I will provide some screenshots, how to use root explorer (or similar) to copy and chmod the files into /system/app.

ADB is to complicated for n00bs...smile.png

The chmod command I understand (as I use Linux) so I may be a step ahead of the other Android n00bs clap2.gif. I'll give a go tomorrow and try and simplify the steps for everyone else in the same boat unless I fail miserably and brick the box.

Hi Turkleton, You are a true gentleman and a scholar ,I followed your instructions

and everything is working as it should be.

went back and forth doing the install one step at a time.

Its one of the better things about ThaiVisa when you get get help like this.

I think I manage it correctly but the scree oif my analog TV is really awful for reading so I can't be 100% sure. I tried to connect my PC screen to the box but it didn't work; maybe the port is video / s-video port of it is HS (it's an Dell with 4 differnt kinf oc connecting)

Have to move to the south so will check about it next month.

If you've got a PC or laptop, try the HDMI cable that comes in the box. I'm not sure if the boxes work with analogue TVs, that's for someone else to answer.

If your TV has a VGA socket you should be okay though, if not, buy a better TV as someone said the cost of VGA-Super video cables cost 1600 baht. A cheap but decent brand 32" LCD costs less than 9000 baht nowadays.

Analogue TV's usual don't have a HDMI port. DVI and HDMI is a digital signal. HDMI contains audio and video signals. DVI only has video signals. VGA and Super VGA are analogue. They only have video signals, no audio. To go from HDMI or DVI to VGA, you'll need and adapter which changes the signal from digital to analogue. Better to get a HDMI to analog adapter which uses RCA plugs for the analogue TV. That way you'll have audio and video analogue signals for the TV.

I have same problem. Download from Mega? The link at #6 takes you to the Mega website, but not to the Google Play.zip files.

I didn't think I was a N00B but obviously am - sorry
