How do you say "I have a kidney stone"?

Featured Replies

Once in blue moon I get Kidney Stones and I want to be able to carry with me a little card in Thai font that says:

I have a kidney stone.

I could use goggle but it might translate as:

I want my kidney removed! laugh.png

thanks for any info.

Normally, kidney stones are called นิ่วในไต but if you just say ผมเป็นนิ่ว it's readidly understood that you have kidney stones.

Since mole hit the nail on the head all I can add is nonsense but.

Don't get the card mixed up. You will end up going to a store and give them your business card and they will just look at you very strangely.

I actually don't know why you would ever tell anyone besides hospitals and there you would most likely have a doctor who knows what they are.

My dad gets them all the time and I can tell by his facial expression that he is passing a stone.

The last time I had a kidney stone I could not move. I was on the floor unable to walk. It was too big to pass. I was in the hospital for four days.

I want to be able to tell anyone what the problem is. Out in public, ambulance driver, paramedics, or a doctor way out in the sticks.

OK if I print ผมเป็นนิ่ว on a card that should do it. Thanks.

Confirming what "Mole" wrote.

Just pointing out, that ผมเป็นนิ่ว (phompen nio) means "I have stone(s)" in general.

Could be misunderstood for gallstones.

I would better suggest to learn/print the first suggestion: นิ่วในไต is specific for kidney (stones) calculus.

From the ICD codes for medical professionals.

http://med-code.info/code/ca/us/icd/2010/N20
Diagnoses (ICD-10 WHO 2010)
N20 Calculus of kidney and ureter
N20.0 Calculus of kidney

Browse through this:
http://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICD-10

and find:

(N20.0) นิ่วในไต

RTGS transcript is "nio nai tai".

"nio" (sound similar to "new") = meaning stone, "nai" = inside, "tai" (dtai) = kidney.

Practice with a Thai friend.
