Insurmountable trash washed up on Bang Saen beach reaching 10 tons per day

On a recent train journey South, I was sitting in the same compartment as a Thai couple and their two kids.

At one point, the wife stood up, and was about to toss a bag of rubbish out the window. I grabbed the bag from her, and placed it beside me with the intention of disposing of it correctly later. Judging her demeanour, I thought she must have felt embarrassed about being caught out littering.

About two hours later, another bag of rubbish had been accumulated by the family. Without warning, the wife tossed the bag out the window. She looked straight at me, and I shook my head.

"It's okay." she said. "It's only jungle."

So yes, she must have been embarrassed, not from littering, but because she had lost face to me. In the end, she got one back at me, and I could see the pleasure in her eyes.
