billzant Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Dear Forum, I am having a problem sending using outlook. TOT is my ISP and my email address is based on my domain name. The web host provider suggests that my email is being blocked at output port 25. I went to TOT, and whilst the guy was pleasant he couldn't provide an answer - I also cannot send to his email address - I get a mail delivery system email. I checked online and the blocking of port 25 seems not to be unusual. Initially the problem was just sending, now I cannot access anything through Outlook.Any suggestions? Hope you are keeping well, All the Best, BillZ
RichCor Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Port 25 is insecure, logins and passwords are sent in the clear. It also allows spammers to spoof connections. Can you use port 465 using SSL or port 587 with SSL?

manarak Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Port 25 is insecure, logins and passwords are sent in the clear. It also allows spammers to spoof connections. Can you use port 465 using SSL or port 587 with SSL? Use 2525 won't have a issue useless if the server doesn't listen on that port. and any port is insecure if encryption is not used. still, the advice is correct: try port 465 (at first without encryption), then again with encryption, and do the same for 587, 995. one of these should work.
adweb00 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Well own my own servers certain ISP's have made relaying hard for years. I've never had a issue. Won't bother with ya SSL email shit reckon your emails would have nothing any hacker would ever want
billzant Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 Thanks for these suggestions. I did try to change the output port to 465 in Outlook but it didn't work. Does my host provider have to make changes, or is it just in my Outlook settings? Hope you are keeping well, All the Best, BillZ

The rest u just change in outlook and all be sweet
HullyGully Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I receive mail on my Yahoo account vis OUTLOOK and use OUTLOOK to send all emai Recently I received an email from Yahoo telling me to change the outgoing ports on my OUTLOOK account As previously point out, security issues...Yahoo stated that I would after 10 days no be allowed to send email unless my seting arte changed I suggest you go to Help.yahoo.com and on the site is a screen by screen set up on how OUTLOOK should be set up ( its a screen print of each screen set up...very simple)
RichCor Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 It won't hurt to try using the alternate ports with None, SSL or TLS, but the mail (mx) remote server daemon needs to be listening on those ports, and any intervening firewalls allowing those ports to pass without blocking.Check with your mail (mx) provider to see what address and port/security options (ssl, tls, etc) they're using. POP ports (110)IMAP (143, 993)SMTP/SMTPS (25, 587, 465, 475, and 2525) For reference: A List of SMTP and IMAP Servers (Mail Server) If using authenticated access (ssl, tls, etc) then you must provide your login credentials in the port setup.
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 Dear Forum, Thanks very much for the useful information. I am unsure how to proceed. Let me give some more information. I contacted my website provider who has always been more helpful. I am able to send and receive email through their online email but Outlook is still a problem. They told me they could not change the output port because "This is the " SHARE HOSTING NOT THE PRIVATE HOSTING " Our engineer not allowed to change the default port that take effect on other User." So I think this leaves me with TOT who have caused the problem in the first place and who seemed unable to resolve it when I visited them. I know where to make the changes in Outlook, the More settings - advanced, but I am unsure how to get someone to listen and what they need to listen to. Security doesn't concern me unless it can help me solve the problem - I know where to add in any security details I think. Do I decide on those security details or are they the details I use for my email account - entered more settings outgoing server? There are a number of suggestions concerning change of output port, as the web-host says they cannot change the number that means I must go back to TOT and ask them to change the port. Is that likely? Has anyone worked with TOT? Thanks again for your help. Hope you are keeping well, All the Best, BillZ
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 PS My email is a POP3 account using incoming and SMTP as mail.hostname.com
RichCor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 You're not asking them to CHANGE the port. You're trying to find out if they support other ports for sending email via smtp. Most commercial email providers have more than one port for smtp (the ones listed in previous reply posts). They usually list such things in a FAQ on their site.If you want, we can do some quick research for you but we need the actual name of your email host provider (just the url name), or their www home page.
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 Dear Rich, Thanks for your help. I understand "CHANGE". My ISP is TOT so I presume my email provider is the company who are providing the web-hosting (and who I got the domain name through). The company is http://pantipmakingwebsite.com/ and my domain name is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Previously I asked this question:- "is it safe to change the outbound server (SMTP) to 26?" and answer "Yes, if you can not send , for outlook setting can Switch SMTP Port change to default server if can not send please set outgoing follow ISP" My Thinglish and computing combined was not good enough to understand this. Hope this info is enough, thanks again for your help. Hope you are keeping well, All the Best, BillZ
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 Even more confusion. I have an email address that uses a different domain name. I sent and received email using Outlook with the output port set at 25.

Change the port to 2525 and make sure it's set to "my outgoing server requires authentication" and have it set as same as incoming server

Hope you are keeping well, All the Best, BillZ Before changing ports, you need to make sure your server is setup to listen for SMTP on port 26 as well. This requires manual configuration by your server admin. But it doesn't make much sense to setup port 26 as SMTP, because there are other ports that are already setup for this by deafult in most email servers, for example 465 anf 587.
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 Changing to 465 or 587 hasn't helped.
RichCor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 When you changed to 465 or 587, did you also try None, SSL or TSL with each?
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 As stated earlier is a relaying prob for sure. Change the port to 2525 and make sure it's set to "my outgoing server requires authentication" and have it set as same as incoming server Tried this, setup new Outlook account and got this error message (did logon to incoming server) Send test e-mail message: Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
RichCor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 reading the FAQ on http://pantipmakingwebsite.com now http://pantipmakingwebsite.com/outlook-2007.html
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 Well Done Richcor, thanks a lot for your perseverance When you changed to 465 or 587, did you also try None, SSL or TSL with each? 465 with ssl worked. Hope you are keeping well, All the Best, BillZ
billzant Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 Slight hiccough, didn't work with other accounts, however deleted and set them up again - and worked. Any ideas what was going on?
RichCor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Are the other email account using the same domain name?If not, then you'll need to specify the working smtp account as the 'authenticated' smtp account. Use the LOG ON USING area to fill in this account data. Your outgoing email will then be 'relayed' out using this working account.
RichCor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Oh, and it might be a good idea if you PM one of the ThaiVisa mods and ask them to remove the identifying domain name from your posts. After I posted the request so I could research the mx records, I realized this was against forum rules as it could identify your true identity. You might be some kind of super hero in the real-world and want to maintain your secret identity.
RichCor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Slight hiccough, didn't work with other accounts, however deleted and set them up again - and worked. Any ideas what was going on? They were probably using the old smtp account information, i'd guess. Hopefully they'll all work without having to do anything else now.
z9999 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 If it helps, for gmail: pop server = pop.gmail.com port = 995 smtp server = smtp.gmail.com port = 465 for hotmail: pop server = pop3.live.com port = 995 smtp server = smtp.live.com port = 587
