Just Two Questions

What ages are the kids in matayoms(sp) 1, 2 & 3?

How many weeks in each of the two semesters this coming school year? (starts around second week of May if I'm not mistaken)

:o

Matayom 1 = 12 year old at start of new year. Each number is one more year. Matayom 1 might have a couple 11's or 13's.

I think that in theory, each semester has 18 to 20 weeks, but with all the holidays and lost classroom hours, you should plan to teach the curriculum in 16 weeks, and adjust as needed.

Based on my experience in 3.5 semesters in matayom schools in northern Thailand. I think that Thai words like matayom usually don't need a final /s/ in the plural form.

As above.

Mathayom 1 is equivalent to Grade 7 (US) or Year 8 (UK).

That's that sorted out. I was told by a Thai that M1=11 yr. M2=12 yr. & M3=13 yr. :D

Plan to teach the curriculum in 16 weeks eh! But the curriculum suggests that the little darlings get something like 40 hours a semester, 2 hours per week. My math works that out to 20 weeks... Something will have to give in that case. :o

It's cliched, but TIT

Answered my own question :o

Thailand

There are two semesters in Thai academic year with an optional summer semester. From kindergarten to high school the first semester opens from mid May and continues until the end of September. The second semester lasts from November until end of February (or early March). The university academic year is slightly different, lasting from June to October and mid November to mid March.
