replacing faded/peeled number plate on car

Featured Replies

Hi All.

my fortuner , registered in chonburi district is on an extended visit :D to the inlaws near sakaoe while i'm in the UK,

it has one of the number plates that were made faulty about 4 years ago where the paint peels off.

there is now little to no coloring left on there i'm told with all the white and black having peeled leaving it unreadable by the BiB.

the inlaws have been pulled up by the BiB and told it must be replaced or next time they will be fined.

how do they or can they replace it if i'm not there. assuming like most things getting n new number plate will require paperwork with my passport/visa etc which currently i do not have(visa) ,, or is no paperwork needed ?

i should add i know the replacement method .. ie take to licensing center with reg book and get paper from them then wait.

my question is specifically aimed at do i need to be there. as I'm not likely to be so for another 9 months. also it will only be a copy of the reg book as the cars on finance

If it's just an issue of paint peeling off, wouldn't it be possible to just touch up the paint for now until you're around to take it to the licensing centre.

that would of been my opinion however apparently that's not allowed and the in-laws know so won't do it.

Hi Silentnine,

A few years ago I faced the same problem in a faded number plate on a car registered in Chonburi. I simply removed it, gave it to a professional painter to completly repaint in original colours. Took one day and 200 hundred Baht. I cannot imagine the BIB knowing any difference unless they have singled yout motor out and likely to do a specail in depth check of the paint.

I wasn't aware tha tis was against the law to do so, of course I am engouraging you to break the law but it would solve your immediate dilema.

We has the same issue a few years back with plates in Bangkok. We just had them repainted and problem solved. I believe that you arehowever correct that officially this is not the legit thing to do, but it is effective...

Dont make a Drama, give anyone the Book, go to the Center who pressed them, wait a while and get new ones FOC. Can be a Prob with a BMW if they Bolted and Superglued them on , cause they keep the old ones.thumbsup.gif .

that was my key question .. doe's the owner have to go .. is id/visa required.. and is a photocopy of the registration book ok as its on Toyota finance so we do not have the book

You and many others have Finance, no worries. Easy on with Toyo, they will give you all thats needed. They know the Story. Often wonder if the Shity Blank Mfg has to foot the Bill. We will never know. TIT.biggrin.png
