Royal Thai Consulate, Penang

Featured Replies

Hi again,

I been thinking about going Penang to apply for another Tourist Visa for a double entry (2x60days) in Penang. I would like to know a few things before I go there and get this type of visa.

What forms/documents are required to apply? i.e. Passport...etc etc...

How much is the Tourist Visa in Baht currency?

What is the office hours in Penang?

How long does it take for the process of the application?

I found good prices on www.airasia.com from around B5,145.64 including hotel and flights from Bangkok during May. This is for a period from Monday to Friday which should be enough time to get visa (5days) in Penang.

Thanks

Andy

If you use an agent you will need your passport and a passport photo.............add photocopies of passport to the list if you are going to the Consulate yourself.

Visa is approx 1000 baht/entry.

Consulate hours are from 8.30am to 12.30pm (approx) for accepting applications..................pickup is the following day at 2pm.

5 days in Penang is ample.............you/ll be twiddling your thumbs. :D

Recommended hotel is the Hotel Continental on Jalang Penang...approx 1000 baht/night with pool.................dont confuse it with the Grand Continental.

Visa agent..............use either NJ Books or Parvez Travel both recommended............they are located at the entrance to the Swiss Hotel on Chulia Street (dont stay at the Swiss, its a dump).

Chulia street is left out of the front door of the Continental and 400 yards up on the left............NJ and Parvez are located halfway down on the right.

Just realised you are going on a package with hotel included............anyway i/d recommend the Continental for future visits. :o

Thaiflyer has got most of it covered :o

Just watch out for public holidays, the consulate is closed on BOTH Thai and Malaysian holidays.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

It that 12:30 time correct? They used to close at 12:00 sharp. If you DIY be sure to have local currency for payment. Also you will want to have taxi wait as it is a residential area.

It could well be 12 Lop...........its been a while since i was there (tend to go to Singapore now) and i've always used an agent.

Andy do yourself a favour use an agent that way you can just kick back and enjoy yourself (if thats possible in Penang :o ).................if you havnt booked already i would consider buying a plane ticket and booking into the Continental (there are a few decent bars just over the road from the hotel as well).

That sounds a good deal you've got there.

5 days is perfect to see all there is and do your visa stuff.

I'd say for a tourist visa using an agency is best as it takes all of the leg work out of it and leaves you free time to eat some of the best food in SEA in my opinion. Its only about 100B (10RM) extra if memory serves me right.

Another bebefit about Penang is that you can pick up things like Marmite, proper Heinz baked beans and Ribena in Super Komtar at decent prices.

Yeah, they got those huge industrial sized jars of Marmite over there and they got some Guinness too. Of course Singapore has same same
