gisele
Is there a Hispanic community on Samui? Norberto is new to Samui and would like to get in touch with Spanish people living here. We live in Lamai. I am his girlfriend and the only Spanish speaking person he knows so he would love to meet new friends to socialise. He doesn't speak English much. pokerspiv
I don't know about Spanish but there are quite a few Filipinas here, and I would guess a few of them can speak Spanish. Try the Catholic Church
Gulfsailor
I don't know about Spanish but there are quite a few Filipinas here, and I would guess a few of them can speak Spanish. Try the Catholic Church Doubtful you'll find a Philippino speaking decent Spanish. That influence left The Philippines over 100 years ago. According to wiki; "The 1950 census stated that Filipinos who spoke Spanish as a first or second language made up only 6% of the population. In 1990, the census reported that the number had dwindled to just 2,500." I do know a couple of Catalan people on the island though. They speak Spanish when they want to ;-)
starcandle
If you are struggling to find Spanish speaking people, may I suggest something. I lived in Spain for a couple of years and left with quite a bit of "the lingo" Not being very patient or the type to study books I picked up the language via my interests. I love my football and used to watch the English football in a small tapas Bar with the commentary in English. It's amazing how much you can pick up, 90 minutes of repetition, Rincon=corner, tarjeta= card Amarillo =yellow! Roja=red etc You then also pick up the "bar language" ice = hiello (sounds like yellow) cervesa =beer etc etc? also after a few beers your not as embarrassed to try. I'm not suggesting you go to Bars as that may not be "your" thing, but if you find something your interested in it may be a way forward, not only for Thailand but everywhere else also. Ps there is a small Bar on soi reggae called Austaria, ,, there is a small group of Italians ,, all good friendly guys, they may be able to point you in the right direction. Tropicalevo
A long shot - the salsa classes at the Easy Bar in Bangrak. Every Thursday night about 8 pm ish - near Big Buddha. There are certainly some latinos there, but absolutely no idea what language they speak. Good hunting.
