It depends where, and with whom, you socialise. I have met musicians who were once in well known bands, ex-bank managers, ex-CEO's of global companies, ex-airline pilots, plus many who have respectable jobs still. But at the end of the day, what others think about me is far from my mind. "Dregs" may be here but they can be found in lots of place around the world if you really want to meet them.

Political correctness aside, yes, there are some "respectable" people over here, but, in truth, the vast majority of farangs seem to be the worst of the worst dregs on planet earth. Far too many give the appearance of having just escaped from a maximum security prison or mental institution. It was not like this 25 years ago. This place is a total freak show now, of which I am a part. It makes Twin Peaks seem like a normal place.

To be honest ,where i live on the dark side they all look quite normal.

Pattaya is a bit of a freak show, but quite honestly I would like the place too get even freakier! Hopefully it does not turn into another boring generic beachside holiday destination, there is already too many dull places on Earth.

The first time I ever visited Pattaya was about 25 years ago and that was on business. Since then I have been back many times both alone as a weekend break from biz in Bangkok, and several times with my Brit g/f on short breaks from the Middle East.

This is probably not a unique profile but many people could be quite offended by the possibility of being tarred by the 'sex tourist' brush when nothing could be further from the truth. I personally couldn't give a hoot what other people may thinking as I a enjoy a beer in WSt. Others are more sensitive and we have to respect that. It is wrong to regard everyone that goes to Pattaya in the way that was suggested earlier. At the end of the day, live and let live.

Dreg's not one bit, but I do think you have to be a certain type of peep's to live there full time.

I lived in Pat's for over 10 year's in the end it drove me out, it lost it's excitement.

Having to be stuck in traffic jam's 24/7 just to go shopping, no beach just a dirty mess calling itself one, feted smell from drain's, putting up thing's then a few week's later pulling it down again was like living in a building site, tourist old men, expat's, strutting about with ladies on their arms giving it the big one, the usual dose of food poisoning I got every other week. I'm not even going down the crime route.

In the end my eye's opened maybe it's not heaven on earth just the pit's that I hadn't seen before, moved out 7 year's ago now found Shangri La it does exist in Thailand you just have to open your eye's.

Next time when your out have a good look around and try and think back on what it was like that's if you can 18 year's ago then great now it's just a holiday resort that encourages the Dreg's, sorry to say that if you live there you will be labelled just that.

Can't help it, must side with "Awo". Has this become the meeting point of "deranged" people from "the west?" Hardly qualifying as "Quality-Tourists" or "Quality-Expats".

All this to a point, where nobody in his right mind, would indicate having lived in Pattaya for any length of time, while applying for a job back in his home-country.

= " Staying on an extended Bird-Watching Tour in northern Thailand" would sound a lot better.

Best thing I done ever was moving to Patts from London. Quality of life went up immediately. I must admit I was coy at first telling new people where I lived as you are immediately judged by most but after a while I realised they didn't have a clue so why worry about their opinions.

It's such a fun mad bonkers town I certainly couldn't imagine living anywhere else!
