He's a Doctor and so kind, and he's the only reason I stay here. I'm getting worn down by the farang ghetto aspect of the general area and of parts of Chiang Mai. I guess it would be even worse in other places. I think the next time I come back I'm going to bite the bullet and move out country somewhere, possibly Chiang Dao area. I'm at my happiest when I'm surrounded by beautiful countryside and the unique mix of people that live in the Northern countryside. I find it fascinating. It will also force me to learn Thai too. Immersion is probably the best way of learning for me. Do you feel that your area is going too far down the farang ghetto path? . You don't need to go as far out as CD, although I've seen plenty of foreigners in CD, try Fang (further out) or Mae Dtang (closer). Once you get away from the Loi Kroh and Nimmanhamin, central moat areas, very few foreigners around, if any. Would you agree? Like I said, I'm near MaeJo, never seen any foreigners in my moobaan (250 houses), the shops or streets outside, or the 10 beer bars down the road (unless they came with me). Most foreigners congregate where there are other foreigners, TB hangs in tourist areas only, but is looking for that 'off the beaten path tourist area' where only a few other tourists hang. I could give TB (or anyone else) a night out in CM, where the only foreigners would be us, busy night spots right in town. Even in Bangkok there’s plenty of areas where you won’t see many foreigners. I got a shoe box up in Din Daeng and it’s like Ghetto Central, Thai that is and it’s rarely that I see any other foreigners in the immediate neighborhood while 15 minutes away they’re like everywhere. 4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I live out in the middle of bloody nowhere, and it's getting irritating. Apparently, we're VIPs here, and we even coined the subdivision "VIP Home". We don't associate with you city dwellers, and instead build entire sub-divisions in the middle of nowhere. Phrae as well as I have a pal that lives there. I donàt socialise in the areas you mentioned, I haven°t been to Thapae Gate since the end of July I think, and Ive not been in loih Kroh since the Old Bell shut down, except to attend a birthday party. I was out last night at a place where the owner says he doesnt want farang customers. I can see his point, he runs a cracking business already, no need to change the formula. Would you agree? Have been the only Farang for 8 years, love it that way, No Bars, no night spots, a couple of mom & pop markets and a handful of food stalls.A lot of great people! And still only 3km from the nearest KFC and Big C, 25km from the nearest air conditioned shopping centers, international schools, an American theme steakhouse and an international airport.
