cavin Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Me general way of life sort of thing. Long term rentals fresh markets long term housing. That sort of thing. Any info would be great. I am I. Phuket town now and lack the transport to just go check it out. Though I will of course do that before I accept a hoped upon work offer Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
NamKangMan Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Wouldn't you wait untill you actually have the job, before signing a long lease?
cavin Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 Of course. However, seeing that the govt schools are on break I thought I could get some info before I get up there
NamKangMan Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 You could start to gauge the rental market by checking out some of the many Phuket real estate websites over the internet. They have photos of the property and some brief information. It can give you an indication of what's on offer, and for how much.
durianfan Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 You'll definitely need your own transport. As far as housing is concerned, what is your budget? We pay 23k for a 3 bedroom house in a private villa. Check the internet for prices...depending on your budget and what you want. There's a Tesco and some nice Thai restaurants around. A few foreign restaurants but not many compared to other parts of the island. The most dangerous section of road is of course around the monument. If you turn east you'll run into two 7-11s and two Super Cheaps....this is where the biggest section of idiots convene. Lots of driving on the wrong side of the road and triple parking so be aware.
NomadJoe Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I think you will be spending a lot of time driving south to shopping malls, town, and beach areas where there is "stuff", which is something Thalang doesn't have.
simon43 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 seeing that the govt schools are on break Does that comment mean that you are a teacher? Please don't tell me that you are a teacher of English.... Simon 2

That's not quite true Services in Thalang district has been growing quite fast recently. We have nice (well, the best) beaches in Phuket, plenty of shopping opportunities and other stuff. There is also surprising amount of various construction sites all around. Thalang covers quite a large area of the province. OP: Which area of Thalang are you planning to move in?
shaurene Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hire a car or scooter and have a good look around or talk with a house agent or put an advert in the local press
grumpyoldman Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 There once was a Farang from Thalang, full of Sangsom went into a song, he was so out of key, they threw him in the sea, and he was last seen swimming to Patong ! (a GOM original) 2
Guest Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (a GOM original) You had stock quality inspection day?

Colonel_Mustard Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 The best part of the island IMO. There is plenty to do. Nice and quiet beaches, a good range of golf courses, lots of sporting options at Thanyapura sport centre, cable skiing, go karts, ATVs, jungle canopy walks, zip wire, canoeing etc. Splash Jungle is also in the area. Plenty of Thai and Western restaurants, especially on the Western side near Laguna. There's also a good international school and the airport. Having your own transport is essential though as it's quite a big area and not many taxis or tuk tuks around (except at the airport).

Popular Post NamKangMan Posted October 26, 2013 Popular Post Posted October 26, 2013 There once was a Farang from Thalang, full of Sangsom went into a song, he was so out of key, they threw him in the sea, and he was last seen swimming to Patong ! (a GOM original) And once in Patong, he again burst into song, this time in key, and on bended knee. He sang to a hooker, who was quite the looker. He bought her a bar, and a car. Her family now set, on the cards they will bet. Not long after, it is no joke, that he was to go broke. He was last seen in the airport, his bank account, well short. If ever you meet the Farang from Thalang, do not be shy, ask him how was his trip to Thai, I am sure he will answer, I never go again to Thai, for I would rather die. This is the story of one man's journey, from Thalang to Patong, it's what happens when you think with your dong. So next time in Thalang you think about singing a song, becareful, for you could end up in Patong. NKM (2013/2556) 4

I used to live in Thalang (not next to a mosque) But they had loud speakers strapped to lamp posts, these were set up all over the place so they could blast us with out of tune song before it was even light outside.
