Popular Post BudRight
In the last week several news reports have emerged regarding changes to airport entry/exit fees in Thailand. While many people complained bitterly, others commented that the amount of money was 'nothing.' I find this phenomenon very curious, and wish to know if there is an amount of money that you consider to be nothing. Not wishing to deprive you of anything, I ask you to send this amount to Krung Thai bank account #8840096353. PM me if you wish to send it by wire transfer. I'm looking forward to a productive discussion.

h90
it is not the amount of money, it is the feeling if it is fair or not.

A1Str8
It depends. If it goes to someone who is in need or noble purposes, it doesn't matter. If it is someone who tries to take advantage of me then a wheelchair is all he is going to get..26" rims included.
brit1984
i think the real point is any extra airport taxes are RELATIVELY small so they have no meaningful impact on the overall price and therefore purchase decision between flying (and using the airport) or using one of the other "substitute" services (e.g. bus/train/unicycle/etc) - for most people the airport taxes will have absolutely no impact on their choice of mode of transport however, i like the OP's humour (or commercial genius) - maybe you could start a website and list the names of the people who give a donation along with the amount that they donated and consider to be "nothing" - i think it would be very popular with wannabe "hi-so" thais (if you have a facebook page too of course)

Popular Post worgeordie
All money is valuable especially if you have had to work had to earn it, These people that say a Bht 100 or even Bht 500 in not worth bothering about, can never tell what lies in the future and one day they might be very grateful to have a Bht 100, you just never know. Also a Bht 100 here 100 there, maybe its not so much about money but the principle, I don't ever want to feel I am a Goose that lays golden eggs for anyone. regards Worgeordie

MichaelSong
I remember the 500 baht exit fee from not so long ago. Yes , a tourist then I had spent my last Baht in Thailand and then suddenly had to find 500 extra some way or another. Then you realise it is a lot of money. Suppose it is included in the ticket now. MJP
36 Baht. My electric bill just came in at 564 Baht and I gave the nice lady 600 Baht and refused the change.
Popular Post impulse
If I just spent 45000 baht on a R/T cheap seat airline ticket, I don't really mind if they add 100 baht to the price on account of that fricking inflation. If I just bought a 10 baht water at the 7/11, I do expect some change from my 100. I'd like 90 back, but don't often count it if it feels right. If someone charges me 200 baht more to enter a tourist attraction than they charge the next guy, I'm not going to ruin my afternoon being all offended, and I am not going to go back home to prove a point. If I find an attraction that's free, but doesn't appeal to me, I'm not going inside even if they offered to pay me 200 baht. I was expecting over 1500 Baht bill this month due to an excessive amount of laundry, but no. It appears the policy of installing efficient everything is working. Oh and I bought a real gas kettle, old style, whistles upon boiling. That will reduce the bill further.

marcusd
Granny used to thunp into my thick head.. "look after your penny and halfpennies and the punds will mind themselves". Money is relative. If you have zillions a few bucks here and there is not even a flicker. If you have only 100 baht you feel it hard. If you are travelling usually a small amount on the cost of travel is budgeted for. Remember 500 baht is about $20.00 canadian US Aussie so not big to that market. Retired in Thailand 500 baht seems more as we are settling in and used to price points here so to us compared to Thai wages, it is high. But tourists do not live here so a dent only I guess. And I do care for all my money so I can spend it on greater indulgences.
