I am sorry to say that I don't agree with our example. I doubt that it would be too easy to get a Non-Immigrant visa if you put down the purpose of visit as holiday. Ask for a non-immigrant visa to study language and culture. What is your location in the US ?

So it seems I should just get a 60 day tourist visa with multiple entrys

I want to stay for up to 6 months or even a year but I will be travelling to europe in summer and really did not want to go across border every 30 days

The Thai Consulates in Texas are pretty laid back and you can do it all by mail. Apply for a non-immigrant O class visa to study thai culture, and write a book. It'll work....try Houston

O simply means OTHER that's the class that suits your application
