Police reinforced in Songkhla prior to protest

SONGKHLA: -- Anti-riot police were reinforced at the City Hall in Muang district of Songkhla on Friday prior to a gathering of antigovernment supporters to be held on Saturday.

The rally was called after the House speedily passed the amnesty bill on Friday early morning. About 500 antiriot troops have been deployed at a stadium opposite the City Hall where the rally is to be held.

Troops have also been deployed to other government offices in the province to provide safety around the clock.

Banharn supports speedy passing of amnesty bill

BANGKOK: -- Chat Thai Pattana's advisory chief Banharn Silapaarcha on Friday said he supported the speedy passing of the controversial amnesty bill, adding that anything could happen were the process prolonged.

Banharn said the bill has to go through more procedures so he is supportive of its passing. The House passed the government sponsored bill around 4am Friday although the vetting started Thursday morning. He added it is normal that the Opposition MPs would come out to protest against the bill but he believed there would no violence.

BANGKOK: -- SINCE THE SENATE is expected to debate the amnesty bill by Friday or next Monday, with the deadline for the bill's final passage set at 60 days, the House pushed the bill through to its third and final reading with a 310:0 vote in the early hours of yesterday. Four abstained.

Protest leaders homes come under attack

BANGKOK: -- The homes of two men who have led the ongoing protests by rubber farmers in Prachuap Khiri Khan came under grenade and gun attack early yesterday morning. No casualties were reported.

Theeraphong Kaewnual and Somchai Phoosit said they believed the attacks were motivated by their roles in leading the rally. The incident took place at around 2am when two vehicles arrived on the scene in Bang Saphan district and opened fire on their houses.

The attack, which also damaged the home of a villager not involved in the protests, was launched using M-79 grenades and military weapons, judging from the spent cartridges found at the scene.

Nakon Sawan residents flock to “Thailand Tomorrow 2020”

BANGKOK, 2 November 2013 (NNT) – People in Nakhon Sawan Province are flocking to “Thailand Tomorrow 2020”. The event will be held until November 3rd.


The opening ceremony of the “Thailand Tomorrow 2020” was co-presided over by Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong and Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt. The event is being held to inform Nakhon Sawan residents of the government’s infrastructure development plan.

The exhibition is divided into 8 zones for people to better understand the government’s plan. It showcases all infrastructure projects which include the high-speed train and other improvement projects regarding water and land transports. The exhibition also tells where the high-speed train will pass through in each province.

A seminar on trade and investment opportunity is also held during the event which has been drawing a lot of attention from the people. The “Thailand Tomorrow 2020” will continue in Nakhon Sawan until November 3.
