Hi everyone.

I'm an IT guy getting a WP for IT services I'll be offering via a company I've

setup with my wife here in Thailand.

When I hand in my application for the WP I have to specify a job title.

My last jobtitle was IT Architect and I thought of taking that since it

gives me some freedom in terms of services I'll be able to provide

under the WP. Now someone at the labour department told me that

farangs can't be Architects :o as thats prohibited work.

I told the lady that I'm an IT Architect and not involed in the property

market.

The thing got me a bit weary however and I'm wondering if there's a list

somewhere wih job titles that are prohibited?

Or if anyone knows of IT related jobtitles that aren't prohibited and what

the Thai equivalent of those titles are.

Best,

Including the word 'consultant' is always a good bet.

How about 'Engineering Consultant' nice and broad.

Your basic problem, I think, was your use of the abbreviation “IT”. The only clear word in your job title was “architect”, and this job is indeed not allowed for foreigners.

However, even if you had written “information technology architect”, this could be interpreted to mean an architect who designs buildings for information technology (e.g. a factory where hard drives are manufactured), and thus would not be allowed.

As mentioned by others, use a simple, unambiguous title, preferably one that covers a broad spectrum.

Hi again and thanks for your replies!

So how about Information Technology Consultant?

Funny that they don't complain if the titles are too vague.
