BANGKOK, Nov 7 – Enforcement of the Internal Security Act (ISA) will not be widened despite the government’s concerns on the widespread protests against the amnesty bill, Thailand’s security chief said today.

Paradorn Pattanatabut, secretary general of the National Security Council, said the government would concentrate on talks to the people and explain the withdrawal of all amnesty-related legislations.

The government today called an urgent security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who cut short her trip to the eastern region.

Lt Gen Paradorn said Suranand Vejjajiva, secretary general to the prime minister, was instructed to launch a blanket campaign across the country to explain the government’s latest move concerning amnesty and reconciliation.

He admitted that more rural people have openly opposed to the amnesty bill but clarifications would create understanding.

He gave assurances that the ISA imposition in three crucial districts of Bangkok which surround significant stage buildings including Government House would not be widened despite escalating demonstrations by diverse of anti-amnesty protesters.

Police have been concerned with their peace-keeping duties around Government House but they would not ask for military reinforcement, he said.

At Asoke intersection in the heart of Bangkok, the whistle-blowing demonstration drew tens of thousands of white-collar protesters who took over Sukhumvit Road.

Asoke intersection is an interchange for BTS sky trains and MRT underground trains.

Several political activists including Kaewsan Atipothi, former member of the Assets Examination Committee, made their speeches to the crowd which jointly blew whistles at 12.34 pm and dispersed an hour later. (MCOT online news)

That is not true.

They have not withdrawn the bill that has been sent to the senate only the ones that had been held in reserve.

'He admitted that more rural people have openly opposed to the amnesty bill but clarifications would create understanding.'

Could they be any more patronizing?

Indeed, this is gross misinformation. My Facebook just came up with this headline.

Very very disingenuous.

It's all over. Yingluck says she will not press for any corrections to the amnesty bill in the House after the Senate rejects it. Abhisit and Suthep will be tried as scheduled, and probably found not guilty. Thaksin will not return. The redshirts and Pheu Thai will reunite, and we will carry on with nothing changed.

I admire Yingluck for her action. She is stopping the country from tearing itself apart over the amnesty issue, even though it means her brother will not return and Abhisit and Suthep will walk free.

I guess that really depends on what the Senate decides to do with 'the' Amnesty Bill tomorrow ??

So the news here is, that the police is actually is going to do their job??coffee1.gif

That should be: BREAKING NEWS!!

Well I think there are going to be a lot of red shirts protesting on Thursday.

Be interesting to see if they play parking attendant for a red shirt protest like they do for a red shirt rally.

Yes Abhist and Suthep will walk free as they are being tried on trumped up charges.

The problem is Thaksin will also walk free just not in Thailand.

Seems to be a family thing jet setting all over the world.

Didn't she just today take charge of investigating the Ferry mishap in Pattaya?

Now she has to drop that investigation to cover up her attempt at white washing her brother.

Didn't she also take over the commission set up to settle the Southern Provinces problems.

Come to think of it has she ever accomplished any thing good for all of Thailand?sad.png

Can you explain how she is stopping the country from tearing itself apart?

Her and chalerm should get hitched

Two people who get assigned a lot and never accomplish anything

She would look so pretty sitting in the back seat of a pink Bentley being driven around by Chalerm

I don't trust a word she/they say... As long as the little big man is out there and wanting his money back and this gang is in charge of the government, it'll never be over. It'll just keep coming back in one way or another.

Meanwhile, the police in full control??? That'll certainly be a first!!!!

If standing around idly scratching their balls constitutes doing their job, yes they are hard at work.

Logic is not your strong suite, is it? By abandoning the amnesty, she is allowing Abhisit to face court and be declared innocent, but she was prepared to let them walk free, albeit smeared with false accusation, as part of the attempt to whitewash her brother, herself and the band of criminals she purportedly leads.

Plus of course, PM Yingluck and 'her' government did cause the current protests. So rather than admiring the retreat one wonders about the logic of the first step.
