Good afternoon,

I'm hoping someone has been though this. I gave 6 weeks notice to my teaching job a little while back and I'm going to be starting a new job with a start up about 3 weeks after my last day teaching. I have a non O extension of stay and a WP through my employer for teaching. I understand that they will turn into a pumpkin after my last day.

My plan is to go on vacation someplace out of Thailand for xmas and come back a few days before I start my new gig in the beginning of January.

So, I'll need to cancel my work permit and my extension of stay? I've yet to hear back from anyone at the company about my resignation, they may or may not be helpful. So, as long as I time my flight out of Thailand with my last day of work and everything getting canceled will I be ok?

And what about coming back. My new employer will be taking care of getting me a business visa and a work permit. Can I just get a visa on entry when I fly back in to Thailand or do I have to do something else.

I did look through the forums first to try and find an answer to my question, but nothing quite fit that I could find.

Thanks so much!

The best thing would be for your new employer to get you the required documents to get a single entry B visa while you are at home. That way you will be able to get your work permit without having to leave again.

Another thing to consider is that a start up most likely will not qualify to get you an extension so it would be good to get a multiple entry visa.

You could do it with a 30 day entry but a tourist visa would be the best option after getting the B visa.

Another consideration is that without a visa might be asked to show a return or inward ticket to board your flight.

I think you get 7 days to leave, but not 100% sure on that. If you want to come back and get a new WP that needs to be done on a non-im visa not a VOA. You might be best getting the paper work for a non-im visa from your new employer first and get a non-im visa while you're away.

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

There is no free 7 days you have to pay 1900 for an extension and get 7 days to leave unless getting extensions at one stop service center.

It is a 30 day visa exempt entry not a VOA.

It is possible to apply for WP without a non immigrant visa but it will not be issued without one.

Thanks for the advice! Does anyone know if I'll be able to cancel my WP and Extension of stay on my own? I've read some conflicting stories about the possibility of needing paperwork from my old company to cancel the extension of stay?

You do need a letter from employer to cancel an extension stating the date your job will end which needs to be the same as the date you go to immigration.

OP if you have an Extension of Permission to Stay based on Thai Family (you wrote 'Non O Extension') then this is not affected by your leaving work, it remains valid and should not be cancelled..

You can go to Labour with this form and cancel the WP yourself - you do not need help from your employer - see form plus instructions attached below.

I'm running the operations side of an internet marketing startup. It's a dream job for me. I get to learn some new skills I need to accomplish my life goals, kick ass with keeping all the moving parts in synch and get to help form the culture. Thanks for asking!
