I'm using T.o.T.'s ADSL in South Pattaya, at 09:15 on a Wednesday.

Every time I've run a test like this, I've usually had pretty good results. Still, no where close to the cable speeds I used to have back in Canada :o

Posted

Hmmm, I ran the test on each of the servers noted on the 2nd link. Except for one, the rest averaged 835-840 kbs/sec download, and 364-365 kbs/sec upload (the one server returned results of 722/364).

Ran the test on the first link a couple more times, one result was down to 440 kbs/sec, the rest have been in the upper 700's or higher.

Your current bandwidth reading is:

844.30kbps

863.50kbps

which means you can download at 107.94 KB/sec.

Fairly consistent results, but then again, most of the computer users here (in Pattaya) are probably still sound asleep ! :o

There's a "TRUE" store at Tesco on North Pattaya. The guy claims that for post paid 500 baht a month u get 4 MEGABYTES / sec. unlimited. It only works near Royal Plaza and Tops Supermarket. Prepaid is 200 baht per hour. I don't understand why prepaid would be more than post paid. Anyone know if this is true. You have to get a true sim card also, and have wi-fi access. Seems like a good deal if u live near there.

A few minutes ago.

Yesterday I was only getting 3.1 KB/S transfer download speed.

Hope they get it sorted soon.

Maybe if you moved over to the "Good Side of the Suk", you'd be able to get connection speeds close to what you used to be able to with the ancient 2,400 baud dial-up modems ! :D

Ask Mr Rimmer jow he's getting on these days. He ain't out in the sticks, and I think you'll find he aint doing much better than me. In fact a little birdie told me he couldn't connect to his email for a couple of days or so.

Nothing to do with being in the sticks - it's the sticking provider. :D

That reminds me. I got my ADSL hooked up in late January I think it was, and never received a bill for it afterwards. That is, not until last week.

They finally caught up to me and sent me a bill for almost 4 months of Internet usage (just under 4,000 baht). No late charges though :D

Now that they finally have their house in order, maybe I'll get a regular bill from now on ?

Oh yeah, my ADSL speed ?

I'm fairly convinced that IPStop&Start are throttling back their bandwidth and hoping that that we will not notice.

My average bandwidth for this month taking two readings a day is

250.5 average bandwidth june 2006

Versas bandwidth in November of last year.

532.6 average bandwidth november 2005

I have asked for explanations but they simply ignore emails and will not answer the phone.

Shortchangeing customers on bandwidth is a fairly common practice with many providers.

I emailed Ipstar yesterday, quoting the pathetic bandwidths posted above, and demanded action and a refund.

To my amazement, I received a reply today, saying they had passed on my problem to the relevant department "to be investigated" and I should hear from them again in 2 - 3 days.

Lets see what happens. :o

Mike.

Yes good point. Don't think that ADSL is faster than a good dial up.

The fastest internet connection I have ever had was a 56k dial up from Eftel in Perth Australia.

It delivered a true 56k and you could watch movies using REAL.

Here I am experimenting with ADSL from TT&T, TOT and Loxonfo.

Yes, despite what they tell you, it is still possible to run Loxinfo on TT&T.

Loxinfo 512/256 is very good.

Another route is One2call *99***1# using a mobile telephone and bluetooth.

30 Baht per month for 4 and 1/2 hours. After that 1 Baht per minute.

There is also a speed up service called onespeed.

I have not tested this. Anybody ever used it?

Anybody know about Hutch?

Do they offer an internet servive like one2call?
