When looking at, say, News Sites on the Web I open Tabs for articles I am interested in, intending to go back and read them when I have gone through the whole main page.

It's VERY annoying when one of the Tabbed pages has Video content which is set to Autoplay immediately the page Loads so I get commentary or Ads blaring out and have to search though all the Tabs to find the offending Video and pause it. Is there any way to change my Settings to stop this happening?

Using Chrome Version 27.0.1453.93 m and Windows 7 Ultimate.

excellent question.

I too would love to have an answer. It is one of the most annoying things that happens when I am browisng the web trying to research something.

It often takes a while to track down the offending video or audio file and close it.

For Firefox and Chrome the addon flashblock will stop flash from playing.

Also for Firefox type about:config in the address bar and search for plug_ins_click to play and set this to true (double click). When a video/audio file

wants to play you will get a prompt to enable or reject. Cannot guarantee that this would work for all embedded multimedia files.

Also try "Click to Flash". Many/most of these videos are Flash videos. "Click to Flash" blocks the Flash items on the web page but if you want to play it, you click your mouse on the item you want to play and it runs normally. It's freeware and highly rated. I've used it for a couple of years with absolutely no problems on Safari and Firefox. There is also a Chrome version.

Turn OFF Flash.

I use Opera, and there is a menu item to turn on/off plugins.

Most browsers also have menu items to not play sound/video.

AdBlock works great to eliminate the ad clutter. Add Ghostery to stop tracking too.

I use a few add ons with Firefox, Ghostery usually blocks auto playing video and audio on these type of websites. Noscript is the best add on for controlling these sort of websites. I believe sites like YouTube can be "whitelisted" so you don't have to give permission on every video you do want to watch.
